Faculty Awards Overview

  • Multiple professors have won the Derrick J. Bell Jr. Award for junior faculty member who, through activism, mentoring, colleagueship, teaching and scholarship, have made extraordinary contributions to legal education, the legal system or social justice. Kaaryn Gustafson 2009 (while at UConn) and Stephen Lee 2014.
  • UCI Law has hired several new faculty in the last two years with a wide range of expertise, including: race and the law, gender and the law, criminal law and procedure, juvenile law, constitutional law, lawyering skills and the legal profession, immigration law, banking law, property, international business transactions, civil rights and torts. (Aziza Ahmed, Cindy Thomas Archer, Sameer Ashar, Swethaa Ballakrishnen, Mehrsa Baradaran, Dana Lee, Ji Li, Rachel Moran, Jamelia Morgan, and Ji Seon Song).
  • UCI Law is now home to 12 professors who are members in the ALI, Profs. Alex CamachoMichele Goodwin, and Dalié Jiménez elected most recently.
  • Four professors are reporters for the ALI: Christopher Whytock: Associate Reporter, Restatement of the Law Third, Conflict of Laws; Tony Reese: Associate Reporter, Restatement of the Law, Copyright; Ken Simons: Chief Reporter, Restatement Third of Torts: Intentional Torts to Persons; and Richard Hasen: Reporter, Restatement of the Law Third, Torts: Remedies. Prof. Hasen also is an Adviser for the Restatement of the Law Third, Torts: Concluding Provisions and Michele Goodwin is an Adviser for the Restatement of the Law Third, Torts: Remedies.
