Diplomas

TO DO BEFORE GRADUATION:

  • Verify Name on Diploma
Several weeks prior to graduation students should check the spelling of their name in StudentAccess.  Names on diplomas will be printed exactly as the official name that appears on your campus record.  Your preferred name will not be printed on the diploma! If you would like to change your official name on UCI records, you can submit a "request for name change" form by visiting www.reg.uci.edu. Processing times may vary. Submit your name change request by the end of March 2017 to maximize time for your change to be reflected on your diploma.

When you log-in to StudentAccess, click on the Applications tab on the left column and then the Preferred Name tab above to display your official name.  In the example below, the name that will appear on the diploma is Jane Law.

For an official name change, you must submit a request with the correct documentation prior to the last day of the term.

  • Verify Mailing Address
The Law School pays to have students’ diplomas mailed to their permanent addresses.  Several weeks before graduation students should verify their address on file in the “Contact Information” section of StudentAccess.  Be sure that the mailing address listed is one you are comfortable using in mid- to late August, when diplomas are delivered. P.O. boxes are NOT acceptable. Someone must sign for your diploma upon delivery.

  • Clear All Debts
All debts, with the exception of long-term financial aid loans and/or financial holds, must be cleared with Campus Billing Services before a diploma may be released. Therefore, before leaving campus, graduating students should return all library materials, pay library fines, clear up housing fines, etc.

Diploma Delivery

May graduates should expect to receive their diplomas in mid-to late August. December graduates should expect to receive their diplomas mid-to late February.

Diplomas will not be left on a doorstep:  someone must sign acknowledgement of receipt before a diploma is delivered.  UCI only covers the cost of the first mailing. If a diploma cannot be delivered, it is returned to the University Registrar and the student must make arrangements to pick it up or pay to have it re-delivered.

Latin Honors

Diplomas for May graduates will be shipped by mid-to late August to your most recent address on file. Latin Honors will be posted on the transcript after spring grades and will also appear on diplomas.

Diplomas for December graduates will be shipped mid-to late February to your most recent address on file. Latin Honors for December graduates are determined after spring grades are posted for May graduates.  December graduates who earn Latin Honors should contact the Law School Registrar about re-issuing their diploma with Honors imprinted; the original diploma must first be returned before a new one can be issued.

Replacement Diploma

A replacement diploma may be requested if your original diploma has been lost or destroyed, or your name has changed since graduation.  To obtain a replacement diploma, you must download and complete and sign a Request for Replacement Diploma (PDF) and submit it with the required fees. Go to www.reg.uci.edu for more information.

All diplomas must reflect the exact name on your student records. If requesting a replacement diploma with a new name, you must return the original diploma and submit a Change of Name Petition with supporting documents to ensure that UCI records agree with your diploma. The petition is available at the University Registrar's office. Go to www.reg.uci.edu for more information.

There is a fee for a replacement diploma.  In addition to the replacement fee, graduates may either pay an additional mailing fee, or the replacement diploma may be picked up in person at the University Registrar's Office at no additional cost.  It will take four (4) to six (6) weeks to receive the replacement diploma. (Immediate verification of a degree may be obtained by requesting an official transcript).

Official Transcripts

Official Law School transcripts must be ordered through the Law School Registrar's Office, NOT through the UC Irvine campus Cashiers Office.  Payment is required at the time you order the transcript.  Transcripts will be available within five working days of your request. To request a Law School transcript: contact the Registrar’s office, or visit www.law.uci.edu/academics/registrar/transcripts.html. Please send completed forms and payment to the address below. Checks should be made out to UC Regents.

UCI Law Registrar
401 E. Peltason Dr., Suite 1000
Irvine, CA 92697-8000

Alternatively, you can pay cash if you come to the Law School in person to request a transcript.  Please note that if paying by cash we need the exact amount; the Law School Registrar’s Office does not have change.

Alumni retain their current UCINetID indefinitely for use in accessing UCI services. This provides continued access to the Registrar's StudentAccess service so that you can retrieve your grades and transcripts in the future. Be aware that you must reset your UCINetID password annually. Failure to reset the password on an annual basis will lead to your UCINetID being deactivated. You will need to reactivate your UCINetID if you’d like to use it again.
