Commencement Information

If you plan to walk at this year’s commencement, rental orders MUST be placed by Tuesday, March 19 by clicking on “Regalia Order Form” below. Rental fee is $90 per package and you will be prompted to enter your measurements; all regalia orders will come with an adjustable tam (hat) which is yours to keep.

REGALIA ORDER FORM

Regalia Pick-Up: Regalia will be available to pick up in EDU 1121 on Tuesday, May 7 through Thursday, May 9 during these times:

  • 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
  • 2:30 p.m.–4:00 p.m.

Please note, you may only pick up your own regalia. 

Additionally, regalia will not be available on the day of Commencement.

Graduates are required to return their regalia immediately following the ceremony. A regalia return table will be set up at the Commencement Reception. Failure to return your regalia will result in a $400 fee by the vendor.

Assistant Dean for Student Services Elizabeth Schroeder will read your name as you walk across the stage to get your diploma. If you have a name that you think she might mispronounce, please email her at lschroeder@law.uci.edu with your name phonetically spelled. If you like, include your telephone number and she will practice your name while you listen, or she will meet with you in person.

In addition, before the Commencement ceremony begins on May 11, every graduate will fill out a notecard with his or her name spelled phoentically. You will hand this card to Dean Schroder just before she announces your name.

Mandatory Commencement Rehearsal: All graduates must attend this rehearsal at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019. Details to follow.

  • On the day of Commencement, graduates should arrive by 8:00 a.m., in full regalia, at Physical Sciences Plaza-Lower Level (by the Infinity Fountain), (see event map), to line up for the academic procession.
  • The ceremony will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. and will last 90 minutes.
  • A light reception will begin immediately after the ceremony in the Physical Sciences Plaza (between Rowland Hall and Reines Hall).
  • Tickets are not required to attend Commencement.
  • The ceremony will take place rain or shine, in a grassy area with covered tent, some distance from the parking lot. Attendees are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes. We strongly advise all graduates, especially, wear flat, comfortable shoes in order to navigate the path leading up to the stage.

SEATING

Your guests will be able to secure seats on a first come, first served basis. Family and friends should be seated by 9:00 a.m. We ask that your family and friends take only the seats they will use so that we are able to provide seating for everyone. UCI Law staff members will be available to answer questions and direct your guests.

Prior to Commencement

  1. Ensure that your name in Student Access appears as you would like it to appear on your diploma by Friday, March 22, 2019.
  2. Diplomas will be shipped to your permanent address listed in Student Access. Please be sure that your address is correct in Student Access by Friday, March 22Note that the address for diploma mailing requires someone available there to sign for the diploma. Do not use a P.O. Box address.
  3. Graduates who have borrowed federal student loans should contact Director of Student Financial Services Nasreen Zia for an in-person exit interview session.
  4. Check your Zot Account for any outstanding fees (library fees or other outstanding fees) to avoid holds on your account.

Day of Commencement

  2. Return your regalia immediately following the ceremony. A dropoff station will be set up at the Commencement Reception.
  3. Pick up your graduation gift from the Law Alumni Association table at the Commencement Reception.

There will be a reception immediately following the commencement ceremony will be at the Physical Sciences Plaza (between Rowland Hall and Reines Hall). The reception will feature light appetizers and beverages. Your friends and family are invited.

THINGS YOU SHOULD DO AT THE RECEPTION

All graduates should attend the reception to do the following:

  • Drop off your cap and gown
  • Pick up your graduate gift

Aldrich Park is a 19-acre botanical garden in the center of the UC Irvine campus with more than 11,000 trees and shrubs. It has been the site of commencement ceremonies, inaugurations, weddings, concerts, picnics and festivals.

Parking Details

  • The recommended parking Lot 16 at Bison Avenue and East Peltason Drive. Visitor Parking Map.
  • Parking will be free in Lot 16 on Saturday, May 11 for those attending the Commencement Ceremony. Please inform the parking attendant you are attending the Law School Commencement Ceremony. Additional parking for guests with disabilities will be available in lot 12 A, adjacent to Lot 16 (see map), closer to the Ceremony site.
  • Golf carts will be available for anyone who needs assistance getting from parking to Aldrich Park.

You will not receive your actual diploma at Commencement. Detailed information about diplomas can be found here.

Lifetouch, a professional photography service, will be at Commencement and take three photos of each graduate: 1) prior to going on stage to receive diploma, 2) as graduate receives diploma and shakes hands with Dean Richardson, and 3) exiting stage after receiving diploma. You will receive color proofs via email and to your permanent address within two weeks of the ceremony. You may purchase photos directly through Lifetouch Photography Group.

During the school ceremonies, Commencement Flowers will have booths where you can purchase flower and lei gifts for your grad. See the full selection of flower gifts for your graduate and more information about their products and flowers on commencementflowers.org.

Order ahead then to pick up your order, give your name at one of the Commencement Flowers booths at your ceremony.
