Statement of Intent to Register (SIR)
Please ensure you pay the required SIR Deposit by the deadline indicated in your “How to SIR” email. This deposit allows the law school to prepare for your arrival and unlocks other steps, such as the housing application. If your SIR deadline falls after April 20, submit your deposit at least 48 hours before the housing deadline to allow time for processing.
Qualifications for Admission to the Bar
In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.
Character & Fitness: Continuing Duty to Report
Incoming students must promptly report any character or fitness issues that arise after submitting their application. Throughout enrollment, students have a continuing obligation to report any legal actions (arrests, lawsuits, civil actions, administrative proceedings) or university disciplinary charges to the Assistant Dean for Student Services immediately. Bar authorities will verify that your disclosures match your law school file, so timely reporting is essential. If you need to amend any responses to the Character & Fitness questions—whether for events before or after submission—you must email a PDF statement explaining the situation to admissions@law.uci.edu.
