II. Administrative Matters: Getting Started

University employment requires formal paperwork. We try to make the process as painless as possible. In return, we ask that you return all forms promptly to HR to avoid any delays in the hiring process.

A. UCInetID and Duo MultiFactor Authentication

Your UCInetID is your key to online services provided by the main campus; most importantly, you will need it to sign up for direct deposit of your paycheck, view your class roster, access the Academic Rules, Standards & Procedures, submit your grades to the Law School’s Grading Module, and input your final exam information. Click here for information on how to activate your UCInetID (choose the Sponsored IDs, Groups, Retirees option). Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) at UCI uses Duo to add a second layer of security when accessing protected systems and services. Click here for additional information and to enroll in MFA.

B. Compensation and Benefits

Benefits: Lecturers do not qualify for any benefits packages.

Direct Deposit: The School of Law requires its employees to receive payments via direct deposit. To sign up for direct deposit, you need both your employee ID number and your UCInetID. You must first activate your UCInetID. If you have activated but forgotten your password, you can reset it here.

Timesheets and Paychecks: Lecturers do not have to submit timesheets. Payments are made once a month. Direct deposits are generally available on the first business day of each month.

C. Email

You have the option to use a UCI email account instead of your work or personal account. A representative from the Law School Information Technology Services (IT) team will discuss this with you during your IT Orientation. It is important that you indicate to UCI Law administration which email address you intend to use during your time as a Lecturer and that you use it consistently. All official UCI Law communication will be sent to this address, including any urgent announcements, throughout the semester. Be sure to closely monitor your email for communications from students, staff, and administration.

D. UCI Law Website and Faculty Portal

Law Lecturers can find useful information and links on the law school website, including faculty and lecturer profiles, academic and master calendars, and law library services. The Law School website also hosts secure information and internal resources through the Faculty Portal. To access the Faculty portal: 1) visit www.law.uci.edu, 2) click the “Faculty” tab on the bottom banner, and 3) log in using your Law ID credentials. Lecturers use the portal most often to view the J.D. Academic Rules, Standards & Procedures. Other applications require your UCInetID credentials to input course grades and final exam information, and to view rosters and exam schedules. (Please see additional information in Section VII.)

The UCI Law website also contains a Calendar of Events. To list an event on the Master Calendar, please contact your faculty assistant.

E. Letterhead

Your faculty assistant can provide you with both electronic and paper Law School stationery. Use of School of Law letterhead stationery is restricted to communications from you that relate directly to your professorial teaching duties (e.g., letters to casebook publishers, reference letters on behalf of students or faculty colleagues).

F. Virtual Private Network

UCI Law IT can help set up VPN (Virtual Private Network) software that allows remote access to electronic resources; contact IT for VPN assistance.

G. Office Space

Due to space constraints, there is a shared office available for use in the Education building. Contact Veronica Przybyl if you are interested in reserving time in the shared office.

Please note: the shared office will not be available while law school operations remain remote. All office hours and other meetings with students should be conducted remotely.

H. Parking Permit

As of October 16, 2020, parking permits will not be required on campus until further notice. In-person services at the UCI Transportation Office remain halted until further notice. Please email parking@uci.edu for special requests or additional assistance.

Please continue to follow designated signage. Per California law, ADA parking stalls require a visible disabled placard. UCI Transportation will continue to monitor parking facilities and provide safety patrols to ensure emergency vehicle access to fire lanes and service roads.

Sanitation protocols for all parking facilities have been enhanced to increase sterilization of high-touch surfaces, including permit dispensers, elevator cabins and controls, access keypads, and stairway railings.

Additional campus parking information is available through the Transportation and Distribution Services website (https://www.parking.uci.edu).

The closest lot to the law school is the Social Science Parking Structure (SSPS) located at grids D6-7 on the campus map. The entrance is at the intersection of Stanford and Campus. The next closest lot is the Anteater Parking Structure (APS) at grid E7.

When on-campus operations resume:

Semester-long parking permits may be purchased at the Transportation and Distribution Services Office (Building 7 on the campus map, grid D7) using cash, check, or any major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. UCI affiliates (including visiting and lecturing faculty) are not eligible to receive parking permits charged to University funds.

Additional campus parking information is available through the Transportation and Distribution Services website (http://www.parking.uci.edu/permits).

Your faculty assistant can help you arrange parking permits for guest speakers.

I. MCLE Credit

Unit 18 lecturers who teach at UCI Law are eligible for MCLE credit. To request documentation that you may provide to the State Bar of California, please contact Mary Germain or your faculty assistant.
