Justice Prevails - DACA Victory before the U.S. Supreme Court

06-18-2020

Dear UCI Law Community,

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. It is a testament not only to what can be accomplished through hard work and legal brilliance, but also through protest and organizing. We applaud the Supreme Court’s decision.

We congratulate and celebrate our brave alum, Viridiana Chabolla Mendoza ’20, and our faculty members Mark Rosenbaum and Mónica Ramírez Almadani. In September 2017, our then first-year student Viridiana Chabolla Mendoza, and faculty members Mark Rosenbaum and Mónica Ramírez Almadani, among others, filed consolidated lawsuits challenging the federal government’s attempt to terminate the DACA program.

They stood up for justice and led the nation in this courageous case proving yet again that together we can change the world.

Please see the University of California statement regarding this win: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/daca

All my best,
