    Khary Hornsby is the Assistant Dean for LL.M. and International Programs at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, where he oversees the development of the school’s first suite of international student programs. His responsibilities include overseeing the marketing, recruitment, admission, cultural and academic orientation programming, international alumni relations, and cultural and academic orientation efforts. Dean Hornsby has over 20 years of experience in various leadership positions and has conducted workshops and presentations in over 40 countries. Previous to joining the University of California, Irvine he was Director of International Programs, Graduate Programs and an adjunct professor of law at the University of Minnesota Law School. He was recognized by the University of Minnesota with its most prestigious award for global leadership, the 2015 Award for Global Engagement, given in recognition of outstanding leadership and contributions to global education and international programs. He is a certified cultural intelligence and cross-cultural dexterity coach and a certified trainer in: EQ-i 2.0 (Emotional Intelligence); EQ 360 (Leadership, multi-rater); Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI); Unconscious Bias (CQ Center); and, CQ Level 2 (Cultural Intelligence).

    Maryam Meechka Zomorodian is the director of Global Programs at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, where she also earned her J.D. and served as the Senior Diversity and Outreach Editor for UC Irvine Law Review and a leader for Saturday Academy of Law, a pro bono project dedicated to promoting diversity in the legal profession. She currently volunteers for the ABA Afghan Legal Professionals Scholarship and Mentoring Pilot Program, which seeks to restore the professional lives of Afghan judges, lawyers, and prosecutors after the U.S. withdrawal in August 2021. Prior to studying at UC Irvine Law, Zomorodian was an academic advisor at the University of Notre Dame, where she also taught courses for the College of the First Year of Studies; the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre; and the University Writing Program. Additionally, she had the privilege of teaching for the Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars, a merit-based program for students from groups historically underrepresented in higher education. Zomorodian received her B.A. in English literature from the University of California, Los Angeles, her M.A. from the University of Chicago, and her Ph.D. in early modern English literature from the University of Notre Dame.

    Mary Germain joined the University of California, Irvine School of Law in February 2009. She helped establish the UCI Law Fund during her early years at the law school. She was part of the launch of the UCI Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree program and currently provides organizational assistance to LL.M. faculty, staff, and students. She also supports the Korea Law Center’s Visiting Scholars program and the State Bar of California’s MCLE program. Prior to joining UCI Law, Ms. Germain was a Development Officer for Sage Hill School, a private preparatory high school located in Newport Coast, where she oversaw many fundraising initiatives as well as the annual gala event. Earlier in her career, she worked for Human Options, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence. Ms. Germain began working as a community educator for elementary, high school, and college students, teaching about teen violence and awareness, the dangers of domestic violence, and how to get help. She also shared with students how to lead healthy, violence-free lives. Later she became a Development Officer raising vital funds for the organization. Ms. Germain holds a B.S. in Merchandising and Marketing from Northern Arizona University.

    ​​Marty Chao serves as the Professional Development Advisor for Global Programs at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, where he advises international LL.M. students on career development, the U.S. legal profession, and cultural adaptation to American legal practice. In addition to his role at UCI Law, Marty serves as Senior Corporate Counsel and Head of Legal Operations at SHEIN Distribution Corporation, where he focuses on process improvement, legal technology implementation, and scaling the impact of the global legal team. Drawing from over a decade of experience as in-house counsel for international technology and e-commerce companies, Marty brings extensive expertise at the intersection of law, operations, and technology to both roles. Marty is Vice President of the Japanese American Bar Association's Board of Governors, a position he has held since 2014, and serves on the Board of Directors for Exploring New Horizons. Marty received his B.A. in International Studies from the University of California, Irvine, and his J.D. from Whittier Law School, with a concentration in International and Comparative Law.

  • Natascha Fastabend

    Prior to UC Irvine School of Law, Ms. Fastabend was the Associate Director of the University of San Francisco School of Law’s (USF) Graduate Tax Program where she headed the launch of the LL.M. in Tax and the Master of Legal Studies in Tax (MLST) degrees. Ms. Fastabend was also responsible for the establishing USF’s Online Graduate Tax Program. 

    Ms. Fastabend is actively involved in the tax and estate planning community in Beverly Hills, Orange County, the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento. Prior to relocating to Southern California, Ms. Fastabend was an active member of the Bar Association of San Francisco serving on the Board of Directors for the Barrister’s Club and as Treasurer. Prior to relocating to Southern California, Ms. Fastabend was an active member of the Bar Association of San Francisco serving on the Board of Directors for the Barrister’s Club and as Treasurer. Ms. Fastabend also served as the Vice Chair of the San Francisco Barrister’s Tax Section, liaison to the San Francisco Barrister’s Estate Planning Section, member of the Young Tax Lawyers of San Francisco, and member of the Young Tax Lawyers of Sacramento. Ms. Fastabend currently serves on the Finance Committee of the Justice & Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco and is incoming Secretary of the Orange County Young Tax Lawyers Club.

    Ms. Fastabend received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Law, Societies and Justice from the University of Washington, her Juris Doctorate degree from Golden Gate University School of Law and her LL.M. in Tax degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
