IRVINE, Calif. (Jan. 26, 2022) — The University of California, Irvine School of Law and the Fair Elections and Free Speech Center and The Center on Globalization, Law, and Society at UCI Law, is pleased to announce details of its Feb. 2 event, “A Conversation with 2021 Nobel Prize Laureate, Maria Ressa.”

WHAT: A virtual event with Maria Ressa, 2021 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and co-founder of Rappler.

WHO: Maria Ressa, received the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her efforts to safeguard freedom of expression.  She is the co-founder and CEO of Rappler, the top digital only news site, leading the fight for freedom in the Philippines. She has been a journalist for 35 years and has received numerous awards for her courage and investigative reporting. She has been named as Time’s Most Influential Women of the Century

David Kaye, Clinical Professor of Law, Director, International Justice Clinic and Co-Director, Fair Elections and Free Speech Center, will lead the conversation with Nobel Prize Laureate, Maria Ressa exploring themes of her Nobel Lecture, struggles she wages for press freedom and the roles and responsibilities of the dominant social media platforms.

WHEN: Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. PST
