Lecturer

Background:

Len Simon has been a litigator for over 45 years, and an adjunct professor for 20 years. He began his career at a large firm, representing mostly defendants, but moved to a smaller firm,  representing mostly plaintiffs for the bulk of his career. He has handled class actions in the antitrust, securities and consumer fraud areas, and cases involving the sports business.

Mr. Simon has taught Sports and the Law, Complex Civil Litigation, and a seminar on the litigation process, at Duke, USC and the University of San Diego. This is his first year at UCI Law.

Mr. Simon has argued and tried cases in federal and state courts around the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court, more than half of the federal circuits, dozens of federal district courts, and state appellate and trial courts in multiple states. He has represented investors, consumers, and small and large businesses. His sports clientele includes leagues, teams, athletes, agents and sports equipment manufacturers.

Other activities include leadership positions in the San Diego chapters of the ACLU and the American Constitution Society, co-ownership of a minor league baseball team, service in the San Diego judicial selection process, and publication of one law review article and many Op-eds.  He advised California State Senator Nancy Skinner on the passage and structure of Senate Bill 206 (name, image and likeness payments permitted for college athletes).

Mr. Simon attended Union College and Duke Law School, where he was Order of the Coif, a Law Review Editorial Board Member, and on the National Moot Court Team.
