  • Angie Kang

    Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs

    After graduating from UC Berkeley School of Law, Angie Kang began her legal career in the corporate department of Latham & Watkins in 2008. Having represented numerous start-up and technology companies, Ms. Kang decided to join the internet-based media company, Hulu, in late 2011. Since then, Ms. Kang has been promoted to Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs, and has led numerous deals that have built out Hulu’s content library to include some of the most in-demand, premium content in the market.

    In addition to licensing rights on the acquisitions side, Ms. Kang also led all major deals for Hulu’s original series, including the Emmy-nominated series, The Handmaid’s Tale and Casual. Ms. Kang has also led efforts to lock in content providers for Hulu’s new livestreaming service. Ms. Kang’s role and accomplishments go beyond writing terms and negotiating contracts – she has also been instrumental in rating all of Hulu’s original content and creating standards and practices for these new media series. Ms. Kang has been a board member of the TV Online Monitoring Board since 2014.

  • Judge Dorothy Kim

    Superior Court of Los Angeles County

    Hon. Dorothy C. Kim is a judge on the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, where she is assigned to handle criminal matters. She was appointed to the bench in December 2013, by Governor Brown. From 2001 to 2013, she served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California, including as the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. She was a litigation associate at Irell & Manella LLP and law clerk to the Hon. Norman H. Stahl, Court of Appeals, First Circuit. Judge Kim grew up in Los Angeles before earning her BA at Cornell University and JD from Columbia University.

  • Summer Kim

    Professor Summer Kim’s primary interests are in corporate law, corporate finance, financial regulation, and contracts. Her scholarship examines how financial innovations outpace governing laws and regulations, and her work aims to close these gaps. Her recent research projects have focused on the regulation of leveraged loans and the private equity model of corporate ownership.

  • Michelle Rhyu

    Dr. Michelle S. Rhyu is a partner in Cooley's Intellectual Property group in the Litigation department. In her two decades of practice, she has litigated high stakes disputes in the pharmaceutical, medical devices, and biotechnology industries.

    Dr. Rhyu received her JD, with distinction, from Stanford Law School, and earned her PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of California, San Francisco. Her graduate work elucidating asymmetric cell division in drosophila neurogenesis was featured on the cover of the journal Cell. She served as a law clerk for Judge James Ware in the Northern District of California and as an intern for Judge Paul Michel at the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

  • Song Richardson

    Interim Dean and Professor of Law

    L. Song Richardson is the Interim Dean and Professor of Law at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, with a joint appointment in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society. She received her AB from Harvard University and her JD from Yale Law School. Her interdisciplinary research uses lessons from cognitive and social psychology, decision-making and judgment in a variety of contexts, and she is leading expert on implicit racial and gender bias. Her scholarship has been published by law journals at Yale, Cornell, Duke and Northwestern, among others. Currently, she is working on a book that examines the legal and moral implications of mind sciences research on policing and criminal procedure. She is a member of the American Law Institute.

    Dean Richardson’s legal career has included partnership at a boutique criminal law firm and work as a state and federal public defender in Seattle, Washington. She was also an Assistant Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. Immediately upon graduation from law school, Professor Richardson was a Skadden Arps Public Interest Fellow with the National Immigration Law Center in Los Angeles and the Legal Aid Society’s Immigration Unit in Brooklyn, NY.

  • Phillip Shinn

    Phillip F. Shinn is a litigation partner in the San Francisco office of LimNexus, LLP.  Mr. Shinn is a career trial attorney and a former Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal staff attorney. He spent two and a half years in Seoul, Korea, where he worked in the international arbitration and cross-border litigation department of Korea’s largest law firm. Mr. Shinn’s areas of practice include commercial litigation; international arbitration & cross-border litigation; construction litigation; employment litigation; product liability defense; insurance coverage; and intellectual property litigation.

    Mr. Shinn is a former Northern District of California Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, and was elected to membership in the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC). He is a former president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), comprising over 40,000 Asian American lawyers, judges, law professors and law students.  He is also a former overseas president of the International Association of Korean Lawyers (IAKL), former president of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area, and a founding member of the Council of Korean Americans.
