A Note to Prospective J.D. Applicants

What You Should Know About UCI Law

The University of California, Irvine School of Law — one of the nation’s top public law schools — offers students a tremendous legal education designed to prepare students for a lifetime career in law, with a deep commitment to public service and experiential, interdisciplinary education. UCI is a Minority Serving Institution (MSI), designated as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) and as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). These federal designations align with UCI’s aspiration to be a national leader and global model of inclusive excellence.

In light of our withdrawal from the annual U.S. News & World Report rankings, we want to underscore how we continue to invest in our core commitments —  to equity and justice, to public and community service, to interdisciplinary research, to experiential education, and to global engagement — that have defined and will continue to shape the UCI Law experience.

Detailed information is available throughout our website. You might start by clicking on the Admissions tab, where you can find details about the class profile, tuition and aid, FAQs about the school, publications related to different programs, and our ABA required disclosures.  Along with other information, these disclosures include the ABA 509 report, a bar outcomes report, and an employment summary for our most recent graduating class.

If you wish to compare the data UCI Law School provides to the American Bar Association with the information provided by other law schools, you can do so easily with tools provided by the nonprofit AccessLex Institute.  You can also find these disclosures on the ABA’s website.  Additional resources are available through the Law School Admission Council. You may find Xplore JD to be another helpful resource that provides side-by-side comparisons of law schools. Educational services company The Princeton Review released its annual “Best Law Schools” rankings for 2023, which aims to list the top 10 schools in each of 14 categories, derived from surveys of students and administrators. You can find us there listed No. Most Diverse Faculty, No. 8 Most Liberal Students and No. 10 Best Professors.

Stay connected by signing up for our monthly newsletter, where you'll get the latest news and updates from UCI Law. As you make your decision, we encourage you to connect with our Admissions Office, engage with our Admission Ambassadors wanting to share their perspective;  review our Viewbook; take a virtual tour; and follow us on social media (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook). Our programs are substantial, consistent with being a law school embedded in one of the nation’s leading public research universities.
