IRVINE, Calif. (June 8, 2023) — The University of California, Irvine School of Law (UCI Law) is pleased to announce that rising third-year students Isaiah Crosby and Jelani Shelton have been appointed to the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) board. Crosby was named National Graphic Design Specialist and Shelton was named National Director of Programming and Events.

Founded in 1968, NBLSA is a student-run, national organization formed to articulate and promote the needs and goals of Black law students, and to effectuate positive change in the legal community. As the largest law student organization in the country with more than 6,000 members, NBLSA includes chapters or affiliates in six countries including the Bahamas, Nigeria and South Africa.

Crosby and Shelton are also co-presidents of UCI Law’s BLSA chapter for 2022-23. The group organizes educational programs, community outreach, professional development workshops, cultural and political events, and mentorship opportunities within the UCI community and Orange County at large.

“As president of a regional chapter, it is great to see how NBLSA works on the national level,” said Isaiah Crosby, who was named NBLSA’s National Graphic Design Specialist. “Our great work is already beginning and I’m hoping more of our work will be shown in the near future.”
