UCI Law Receives $50,000 in Donations to Establish COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund for Students

04-17-2020

IRVINE, Calif. (April 17, 2020) — The University of California, Irvine School of Law (UCI Law) is thrilled to announce it has received two $25,000 gifts. One from Hueston Hennigan LLP, and one from the AccessLex Institute. These generous gifts will serve as a COVID-19 emergency relief fund for UCI Law students during this unprecedented time.

“We are so thankful to Hueston Hennigan and AccessLex. They have stepped up to help our students in these uncertain and challenging times,” said L. Song Richardson, Dean at UCI Law. “Their generous pledge will make a difference in our students’ lives and will help alleviate some of their financial burdens.”

The fund is intended to be a supplemental financial resource for UCI Law students who are unable to meet immediate and essential expenses because of hardships surrounding COVID-19. Those needs include housing, food insecurity, medical care, travel expenses, technology for remote learning, and other unforeseen emergency circumstances.

“We are pleased to support UCI Law School’s proactive efforts to support its students during these challenging times,” said John C. Hueston.

John Hueston, a Partner at Hueston Hennigan LLP, is also joining the UCI Law Board of Visitors. His work ranges from winning and defeating multibillion-dollar actions to terminating some of the nation’s most significant regulatory and criminal investigations and cases. He currently represents Fortune 500 companies and governments as lead counsel. Hueston has been recognized twice as a “California Lawyer of the Year,” and was a former lead prosecutor for the Enron trial of Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling.
