Prof. Katie Porter Elected to Congress

11-16-18

Dear UCI Law community,

I am pleased to announce that our brilliant professor, colleague and friend Katie Porter has been elected to Congress, and will represent California’s 45th Congressional District. Katie is the first professor in the history of the University of California, Irvine to be elected to Congress. We are proud of Katie’s achievement, and are confident she will have tremendous success in her new role in Congress.

Katie joined UCI Law in 2011, teaching subjects such as business law, consumer law, bankruptcy, and secured transactions. In 2012, she was appointed by then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris to be an independent monitor of banks in a nationwide $25 billion mortgage settlement, and launched the UCI Law Consumer Protection Clinic to assist with the monitor’s work.

Throughout her career Katie has been a fierce advocate for her clients and students, and I have no doubt she will be a powerful advocate for her new constituents. Please join me in congratulating Katie and wishing her the best as she joins the U.S. House of Representatives.

Warmly,

L. Song Richardson
Dean and Chancellor’s Professor of Law, UCI Law
