Background:

Scot is a tax partner with over 20 years of experience in tax consulting, planning, and controversy. Prior to joining KPMG, Scot held roles in Big Four public accounting and as a litigator in private law practice. He is an adjunct tax professor at the University of California, Irvine School of law, and a frequent speaker at tax industry conferences. His controversy practice includes advising businesses and high net worth individuals on significant California matters including residency and sourcing.

Scot is a member of the Finance Committee of the Orangewood Foundation, providing foster and community youth services; and a former advisory board member of California Taxpayer Association and the San Juan Capistrano Equestrian Coalition.

Professional and industry experience

  • Scot has in-depth knowledge of US federal and state tax law, extensive experience working with taxing authorities, and a reputation in the marketplace as a thought leader on complex tax issues.
  • Scot leads client engagements including compliance, audit defense, planning, tax provision, and administrative controversy.
  • Scot has a wide range of experience consulting with both large public and privately held companies on various income, business, gross receipts, sales/use, and local tax issues.
  • Based in Southern California, Scot serves clients in a wide range of industries including: technology-enabled services, healthcare, retail, media, telecom, manufacturing, insurance, real estate, private equity, family office, and financial services.
