UCI Law Evacuation Procedures

Please read through the information below and be sure to sign up for zotALERT – the campus emergency alert text system. In addition, if you see anything in our buildings (MPAA, Education & Law) that needs repair you can email us at facilities@law.uci.edu to report it.

Building Evacuation Information – follow these procedures anytime a building alarm sounds:

  • Prepare to evacuate the building using the nearest exit (or alternate if nearest exit is blocked).
  • If safe to do so, take personal belongings (keys, purses, wallets, etc.).
  • If safe to do so, secure any equipment before leaving.
  • While evacuating, keep calm, WALK quickly to the nearest marked exit from the facility and ask others to do the same. DO NOT RUN. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS.
  • Notify emergency personnel if you suspect someone may be trapped in the building.
  • If you are in one of the Law School buildings (LAW, EDU, MPAA), please go to the “Lot BP Assembly Area” identified on this map (PDF). If you are not at the Law School campus, please go to the nearest assembly area. Locate your supervisor or those in your department to report your accountability.
  • Follow instructions from first responders.
  • DO NOT return to an evacuated building until an all clear message is given from emergency personnel.

Emergency response procedures are different depending on the scenario so please familiarize yourself with what to do should one of these events occur – Earthquake, Evacuation (Fire), Secure-in-Place (Active Shooter), Shelter-in-Place (Environmental Contaminants). You can find more information about each of these on the UCI Emergency Management website's Emergency Procedures page. Please take note that during Secure-in-Place scenarios campus Facilities Management has permission to remotely lock doors that have automatic (keycard) door locks installed.

Active Shooter Emergency Response Training: For anyone who is interested but was unable to attend the training session, you can view the video recording of the training here.
