Joon Y. Bang is the executive director of the Korean American Coalition-Los Angeles (KAC-LA), a 2017 California Non-Profit of the Year Honoree. After graduating from Biola University, Joon interned with the National Conference of State Legislatures in Washington D.C. and contributed to several published reports on immigration and spearheaded publication on the Human Services federal budget update in 2006. His career in social justice work began with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF) where he served as the primary program manager in the national office. He led multiple programs including the historic Civil Rights Training Institute and oversaw the organization’s strategic planning and special projects.

After LDF, Joon joined the UCLA Foundation as its associate director to help advance the philanthropic pillar of the organization by partnering with the organization’s board of directors and was responsible for creating the Foundation’s $500,000 scholarship fund to support low-income students. Joon currently serves on the steering committee of the United States Census Bureau CIC and advisory board of Divided Families USA.
