Media Advisory: UCI Law to Host Human Trafficking and Child Marriage Forum

Irvine, Calif. (Sept. 11, 2019) -- The University of California, Irvine School of Law (UCI Law) along with the UCI Initiative to End Family Violence (IEFV) and Global Hope 365 will host a forum titled, "Human Trafficking and Child Marriage."

WHAT: The forum will focus on how human trafficking and child marriage deny autonomy and harm the physical, sexual, and emotional health of those who are and/or have been targeted. Scholars, experts, legislators, and public officials will share research findings, examples from their work and policy proposals for the way forward. These conversations and findings will provide the opportunity to exchange ideas for solutions and increase momentum for legislative change.

WHO: Speakers in attendance of the forum include Supervisor Doug Chaffee who serves as the Orange County Supervisor 4th District; Michelle Heater, Program Director, Victim Assistance Programs at Waymakers; Debbie Martis with the Riverside County Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce; Dr. Sandra Morgan, Vanguard University Global Center for Women and Justice; Rima Nashashibi, Founder of Global Hope 365; Chief David Nisleit with the San Diego Police Department; Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, 74th Assembly District; Dr. Jodi Quas, Professor of Psychological Science at the UCI School of Social Ecology; Sergeant Juan Reveles with the Anaheim Police Department; Dr. Corey Rood, Child Abuse Pediatrician with the Department of Pediatrics at UC Irvine; Jane Stoever, Director of IEFV and Professor at UCI Law; and Dr. Mellissa Withers, Associate Professor of Clinical Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
