12-14-2021

IRVINE, Calif. (Dec. 14, 2021) — The University of California, Irvine School of Law (UCI Law) is pleased to announce that Andrews & Thornton, Attorneys at Law has generously committed $250,000 to establish the Andrews & Thornton Endowed Law Scholarship. This gift provides additional support to strengthen UCI Law’s dedication to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), which we view as central to our mission of training the future leaders of the legal profession and in society. We are committed to fostering an environment where students, faculty and staff — regardless of dimensions of our lived identities — are empowered to build and develop our learning community. This approach dates to our founding. We believe that a learning community with a foundational commitment to EDI creates better lawyers, inspires innovation, benefits clients and communities, and encourages solidarity.

“We are very grateful to Anne Andrews and Andrews & Thornton for their generosity and strong support of our Law School,” said Bryant Garth, UCI Law Interim Dean and Distinguished Professor of Law Emeritus. “This scholarship will help our students achieve their dream of earning a law degree, while ensuring greater diversity and inclusion within the legal profession.”

Founded by Anne Andrews and John Thornton, Andrews & Thornton is a leader in pharmaceutical, medical device and dietary supplement litigation prosecuting groundbreaking lawsuits in State and Federal District Courts. Anne Andrews was an early supporter of UCI Law, providing scholarship funds to benefit students at the launch of the Law School, establishing early programs and providing mentorship to UCI Law students.

"It is my honor to support both UCI Law and its students through this gift,” said Andrews. “It is critical that the next generation of lawyers be a diverse community of the best and brightest talent."
