A note from Dean L. Song Richardson

03-12-19

Dear UCI Law Community,

U.S. News & World Report announced its latest law school rankings, and out of 192 accredited law schools nationally, UCI Law ranked No. 23. This marks the fifth U.S. News ranking for UCI Law. While fluctuations year-over-year are typical, we’re proud that as the newest public law school, we continue to rank among the top schools in the country.

I am delighted with the particularly high rankings in key specialty areas we emphasize, including two top-10 rankings:

  • No. 7 for Clinical Training (our highest ranking ever, up 6 spots from last year).
  • No. 8 for Tax Law (our debut ranking in tax).
  • No. 14 for Legal Writing (our highest ranking ever, up 9 spots from last year).
  • No. 19 for Intellectual Property Law (up 2 spots from last year).

U.S. News also ranked UCI Law in the areas of Environmental Law (30), International Law (31) and Health Care Law (44).

Finally, UCI Law has the highest diversity index score among law schools ranked in the top 25 overall.

This news is more validation that we are doing something very special at UCI Law. Each member of our community plays a vital role in our success. And while we are certainly proud of this latest recognition, it does not begin to define us. It is just one example of how together we can, and will, continue to achieve and amaze.

I want to thank you for being part of this extraordinary community! It is my great privilege to serve as your dean and celebrate our 10-year anniversary with you this year.

Warmly,

L. Song Richardson
