Soonkoo Myoung serves as Dean of the Korea University School of Law, where he has been a Professor of Civil Law since 1995. Prior to that, he was Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Institute for General Education at Korea University. In 2005, he was Visiting Professor (Laureate) of Erasmus Mundus at the Université du Havre, France. He was awarded Chevalier of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques from the French Government in 2007.

Dean Myoung has acted as a member of committees in multiple fields, including the Korea Standard Health Classification Advisory Committee of Statistics Korea; Future Strategy Committee of Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service; South and North Korean Legislation Advisory Committee of Ministry of Government Legislation; Civil Code Reform Committee of the Ministry of Justice; and Administrative Appeals Commission of Seoul Metropolitan City.

He has published over 50 theses and 30 books, including Principles of Civil Law (Parkyoung Publishing Co.: 2015, 2016, 2017), General Theory of Civil Law: Texbook of Bosung College (Korea University Press: 2015), National Health Insurance Act (Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service: 2011), Adieu, Digliches Rechtsgechäft (Korea University Press: 2006), and A Gentle Introduction to American Contract Law (Bobmun sa: 2004, 2008). He has also performed numerous research projects as Director of The Healthcare, Legal and Policy Center and Director of The Comparative Law Research Center, and received the Korea University Research Award in 2017.

He holds a Bachelor of Law and Master of Law from Korea University. In 1994, he received his PhD of Law from Université de Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne). His doctoral thesis was nominated for “Thèse de l'année” (Thesis of the Year) in France.
