Linda Krop is the Chief Counsel of the Environmental Defense Center. She has practiced environmental law at EDC since 1989 and specializes in cases addressing the protection of coastal, open space, and natural resources, as well as offshore energy issues. Krop won court victories prohibiting the extension of 37 federal oil leases off the cost of Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties, and upholding the County of San Luis Obispo’s denial of Phillips 66’s proposal to transport crude oil by rail to the California coast. Krop recently led the successful effort to pass state legislation opposing new federal offshore oil and gas leasing. She served on the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council from 1998-2013 and teaches Environmental Law and Land Use & Planning Law at the University of California at Santa Barbara. She was appointed by the U.S. Minerals Management Service as a member of the California Offshore Oil and Gas Energy Resources committee and High Energy Seismic Survey task force.
