Onno Husing began his career in marine policy in 1976 working on a commercial fishing vessel in Cape Cod (summers of 1976 and 1977). Then, during 1980, Husing was a researcher at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. During 1981 and 1982 he worked on Capitol Hill, as a Sea Grant Fellow, on offshore oil and gas development and the Law of the Sea Conference. Husing then earned a masters degree in City and Regional Planning from UNC Chapel Hill. Husing completed his education by earning a J.D. at the University of Oregon School of Law (1988). From 1996 to 2012 Husing worked for local governments on the Oregon Coast, with a focus on ocean and coastal management issues. For the last six years, Husing has served as the Planning Director for Lincoln County on the Central Oregon Coast.
