James Lee, Chief of IRS Criminal Investigation, to Keynote the Annual UCI Law / Taylor Nelson Amitrano LLP Tax Symposium

IRVINE, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2023) — The Graduate Tax Program at the University of California, Irvine School of Law will host its fifth annual UCI Law / Taylor Nelson Amitrano LLP Tax Symposium on April 17, 2023. Sponsored by the Law Offices of Taylor Nelson Amitrano LLP, the theme of this year’s symposium is Taxation of Crypto-Assets.

This virtual event will feature keynote speaker, James (Jim) Lee, Chief of IRS Criminal Investigation (CI). In this position, he oversees a worldwide staff of approximately 3,100 employees, including 2,100 special agents in 20 Field Offices and 11 foreign countries. As Chief, he leads and oversees some of the most significant investigations of financial crimes involving tax, money laundering, public corruption, cyber, ID theft, narcotics and terrorist-financing.

Prior to his assignment as Chief, Jim’s executive positions included serving as the Deputy Chief of CI, Director of Field Operations-North, Director of Field Operations-South, Director of Strategy and Executive Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Field Office. Jim has a bachelor’s degree from Tiffin University.

Symposium organizers are soliciting questions for Lee in advance of the keynote presentation. Only registrants to the event may submit questions. All questions should be submitted no later than Monday, March 20 via the registration link.

In addition to Lee's keynote address, the symposium will feature presentations by leading tax practitioners, industry entrepreneurs, researchers and government officials. A full conference schedule will be made available early March.

This event is approved for 5.25-hours of Continuing Legal Education Credit by the State Bar of California. UCI Law is a State Bar-approved MCLE provider.
