The John S. and Marilyn Long U.S.-China Institute for Business and Law (The Long Institute) offers comparative expertise about business and law in the United States and China.
The John S. and Marilyn Long Institute for US-China Business and Law studies the interaction between legal rules and business behavior. It is a premier research institute with an interdisciplinary and intercultural body of faculty from across the UC Irvine campus and leading schools in China. The Long Institute engages in cutting-edge research about compliance, using insights from psychology, management science, sociology, and criminology. For instance, the Institute will start a Compliance Action Laboratory working with leading psychologists to use experimental methods to find ways to improve compliance and understand cross-cultural differences and challenges. Through all its research the Institute seeks to create a better understanding about how law and business interact in the US and in China. Moreover it aims to find better ways to enhance business compliance with public and private rules. The Institute also organizes regular lectures about Law, Business and Society in China for academics and practitioners in Southern California. Meanwhile, in 2014 the Institute also will launch Chinese book series to promote better understanding about compliance and implementation of law in China.
