Mock Trial Program: September 9, 6:00pm, EDU 1121: Join the Mock Trial program for our fourth weekly meeting - Closing Arguments. Come join us for a chance to learn and practice the various techniques behind giving a persuasive closing argument. All are welcome. Email lawmocktrial@lawnet.uci.edu with any questions!
LLSA Legal Spanish Workshop: September 30, 12:00pm - 1:30pm, LAW 3750: Join LLSA for the opportunity to build and strengthen your legal Spanish skills at our Legal Spanish Workshop! We will be hosting a presentation taught by Lecturer Ayami Nieves and Court Interpreter Guillermo Peral, followed by an opportunity to practice under professional supervision and advice. Lexis Office Hours: LexisNexis is excited to offer office hours at UCI Law, hosted by your Lexis Associates, a few times a week. These sessions are open to any student with questions about legal research or how to get the most out of your Lexis subscription. Whether you’re stuck on a search, want a walkthrough of a feature you haven’t tried, or just want tips to research more efficiently, stop by — no appointment necessary.
FBA LA: Judicial Clerkship and Externship Panel Discussion: October 2, 5:00pm - 6:30pm, United States District Courthouse, 350 W. First Street, Los Angeles, Courtroom 8C (8th Floor): This panel for students interested in judicial clerkships and externships will feature speaker Chief District Judge Dolly M. Gee. She will be joined by a panel of Federal practitioners who have served as clerks and externs. The event is free of charge and light snacks will be provided. SAVE THE DATE: What the Constitution Means to Me: October 3, 7:00pm, The Little Theatre: Students are warmly invited to join us for a production of the ever-timely and impactful What the Constitution Means to Me. This performance is a result of a collaboration between its cast members (including 2L Tia La'ulusa), If/When/How, and the UCI Drama Department. An RSVP form will be posted in an upcoming SLATE along with an event page with more details, but for now we wanted you to save the date. What the Constitution Means to Me was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2019. It is autobiographical and moves between the playwright's 46-year-old self and her 15-year-old self, who competed for college prize money by giving speeches about the Constitution. Oscillating between her adult and teenage experiences, the play explores how the Constitution has affected her family in past generations and asks broader questions about whom it protects and how we might better protect vulnerable people. The play ends with a live debate about whether or not the Constitution should be abolished, with an audience member acting as judge—over the course of its Broadway run, the results were split roughly 50/50.
German-American Lawyers' Association: “Unconventional Responses to Unique Catastrophes: Tailoring the Law to Meet the Challenges.”: September 17, 10:00am, Virtual: Kenneth R. Feinberg will join the German-American Lawyers’ Association for a fireside chat. Feinberg designed or administered compensation frameworks arising from 9/11, Deepwater Horizon and major matters involving Volkswagen, General Motors and Boeing. The discussion will cover difficult questions of compensation, mass claims, procedural design, institutional legitimacy and the limits of conventional legal mechanisms. Register here.
ULEI Student-to-Student Legal English Conversation: The Ukraine Legal English Initiative (ULEI) is excited to launch the fourth consecutive semester of student-to-student Legal English Conversation for Ukrainian law students. We're looking for volunteers who are English speaking law students, whether from the US or any other country. You can sign up with this Google Form.
OCHBA Scholarship Opportunities: Applications for OCHBA’s Wally Davis Scholarship (up to $40,000 will be awarded to up to four 1Ls and 2Ls) and OCHBA’s Bar Stipend (up to $6,000 will be awarded to up to four 3Ls) are available now. Winners will be invited to attend the OCHBA’s annual gala, where their awards will be announced.

As a UCI Law student, you have FREE access to hundreds of study aids or supplements through the UCI Law Library. Don’t let these awesome resources go to waste!
Law Review Notes & Comments Submission Window: The Volume 17 Notes & Comments submission window is currently open and will remain open through October 20, 2026. Students interested in submitting a Note should review the submission information and submit their materials by the deadline.
Cal Lawyer Student Contribution Opportunity: Cal Lawyer (a site built for law students and early-career attorneys) is looking for student writers who might want to contribute. Contact Dr. J if you are interested.
ACCFSL 2027 Writing Competition: The American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers is pleased to announce its 2027 annual writing competition to recognize significant written contributions to the field of U.S. consumer financial services law. Click here for instructions and guidelines. The deadline for submission is November 1, 2026.
Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE) 2027 Law Program: May 28 - June 11. FASPE is now accepting applications for their two-week fellowship program that will examine the actions and choices of German lawyers in enabling Nazi politics. Program is fully funded and will take place in Germany and Poland. Review FASPE website for application requirements and process. Apply for fellowship by January 3, 2027.

J. Reuben Clark Law Society of Orange County Annual Dinner: September 25, 6:00pm: The J. Reuben Clark Law Society of Orange County cordially invites students to attend its annual dinner. Bonnie H. Cardon, former president of Southern Virginia University and former general officer of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will deliver the keynote. Law and Justice Workshop Series: 12:00pm - 1:00pm, NEW LOCATION - EDU 1111: Our Justice as Lens initiative launched in 2025 with a series of community conversations that sparked engaged, wide-ranging discussions about the intersection of justice and law. The Law & Justice Workshop Series builds on that momentum with convenings that provide a chance to dig into justice-infused topics and critical perspectives through the lens of first-year courses, alongside the faculty who teach them.

Campus Resources: Law students can benefit from services at the Law School and on Main Campus. On our Campus Resources webpage you will find a variety of resources that we encourage you to take advantage of. Dr. J is our liaison to each of these offices, so please be in touch with her if you need any additional assistance!
On-site Counseling: The Counseling Center has a law school satellite office located in MPAA 210F, where Dr. Diana Chan will provide short-term therapy to help you address your concerns. Therapy is provided virtually and in-person during the academic year. Common concerns include relationship issues, academic concerns, trouble adjusting to law school, anxiety, depression, etc. You can schedule an appointment with Dr. Chan by calling (949) 824-6457. Please specify that you would like to see Dr. Chan at the law school.
Know Your Rights: Refer to the information in this Know Your Rights guide provided by UCOP for immigrant legal services. Copies have been posted on the student bulletin boards within the Law School and pocket/wallet-sized cards are available for pickup in the Student Affairs and Student Services Suite (MPAA 210). The suite also has red cards available from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.
