Announcements and Deadlines

Clerkship Applications: Applications in OSCAR will be released to judges on June 12th at 9:00am. To maximize your chances of success, please have your application completed and materials uploaded by this date and time. For further details, please refer to Dean Deol's email on 5/19, as well as Director Arden's email on May 30th. 

Flo Recruit Training - 2023 Virtual Interview Prep: To get prepared for Early Interview Week (EIW), please register to receive a walk-through of the virtual interview platform on Wednesday, June 21st at 5:00pm! Flo Recruit is also collecting information via this short survey regarding your preferences for interviews and employer research. 

Admissions Ambassadors & Community Fellow Applications: These student leadership positions are accepting applications now until Monday, June 5th by 5:00pm! Please see 5/25 email from Dr. J for details on how to apply to both programs. We hope that you will consider applying to one or both programs.

UCI Law Pre-Law Outreach Program (POP) Mentor Opportunity: POP helps students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for the law school application and admissions process. Each POP student is paired up with a current UCI Law student and will meet them for lunch on campus on Saturday, June 17th between 12:30-1:30pm and Saturday, July 29th between 1:00-2:00pm. Students who are away from campus during the summer can also participate via Zoom. Please email Grace Lee if you are interested.

DOJ Informational Summer Webinars: Students are welcome to participate and learn about the Attorney General’s Honors Program (HP) and Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP), participating offices, eligibility requirements, and the application process. Ms. JD Law Student Leadership Academy Virtual Conference: will be held on Thursday and Friday, June 15th thru 16th. Accomplished attorneys, influential thought leaders, and professional development experts will be discussing their personal journeys as women in leadership positions. First 300 students to register will receive free admission. 
2Ls: 2024 Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship: Scholarships will be awarded to three diverse students who will receive a minimum six-week, salaried Summer Associate position for the summer of 2024! Each recipient will be awarded $20,000 for their law school tuition and related fees. Application deadline is Friday, June 9th. 
Ms. JD Public Interest Scholarship: This scholarship program provides a stipend to students as they pursue careers in public interest law. It is an incredible opportunity for students who are passionate about making a difference in their communities and who will be completing public interest scholarships this summer. Applications are now open and due by June 25th!
2Ls: People's Party Project (PPP) Leadership Fellows: Fellows will be able to participate in annual retreats and a customized quarterly speaker series, receive a dedicated mentor and significant career support, build organizing and advocacy skills and connections to like-minded individuals both on and beyond their individual campuses, and are eligible for externship credit with PPP. Applications are due by June 16th. Please see the leadership fellows guide for additional information.
Major, Lindsey & Africa: 10 Questions You Should Ask Yourself Before Choosing a Practice Area:  The CDO recommends you watch this presentation as part of your EIW preparation. The presentation poses 10 questions designed to illuminate the distinguishing working realities and demands of a career in major areas of practice.  The recording is available here.  There are additional resources on practice areas on the CDO’s Private Sector page under “Law Firm Practice Area Guides.”
 
Upcoming Job Fairs:
  1. Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair:  The conference and career fair will take place in-person in Chicago from Monday, July 24th through July 26th and the career fair will be held on Monday, July 24th.  Details on registration can be found here.
  2. Bay Area Diversity Career Fair: The career fair will take place Thursday, July 13th (virtual panel at 12:00 pm) and Friday, July 14th (virtual interviews). Registration deadline: Monday, June 19 at 11:59am PST.     
  3. Boston Lawyers Group Diversity Job Fair:  The virtual job fair will take place on Wednesday, July 19th from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Registration is now open. Law students selected for interviews will also be invited to attend the in-person Pre-Job Fair Reception on Tuesday, July 18 at 6:00pm to meet the BLG Employers who will be attending the job fair.

Federal Bar Association - Free Membership for Students: This includes up to three years of associate membership while enrolled in law school as well as free first year membership as a professional member upon graduation. Learn more about this program here and apply today!

ABA Annual Law Student Writing Competition: All current law students are welcome to participate and can choose a topic which can be written from the legal lens with a balance full spectrum legal analysis. First place award is $3,000 and publication in the ABA Journal of Law and Employment Law. Submission deadline is June 15th.

2023 James E. Beckley Securities Arbitration and Law Competition: This annual event invites law students from across the U.S. to submit law review quality articles on legal matters and issues related to protecting investors. First prize is $1,500, second prize is $1,000 and third prize is $750. Additional information can be found here.
