The Law Library: Snacks and the Wall of Cheer! Snacks will be made available on April 26th and April 27th in both the Reading Room and in the California Room. The Wall of Cheer will be on display from the start of the Reading Period through the end of the semester in the California Room hallway. Leave a note of encouragement for the tough weeks ahead! All of us at the library wish you all a successful finals season.

Changes to Law Library 24/7 space: During Spring Reading and Exam periods (April 20 – May 5), after hours library access will be available on the 2nd floor instead of the California Room. Law Students must present their UCI ID to remain on the 2nd floor after hours. Speak to Law Library staff for more information.

2023 Commencement: This year's in-person commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 6th! Please visit our website here to see details regarding tickets and seating, directions and parking, diplomas, reception details, regalia, and more! 

Student Lockers: This is a friendly reminder that lockers on floors 3rd and 4th of MPAA must be vacated by Friday, May 12th. Lockers are used for summer programs so all personal belongings and locks must be removed. You will not be assigned the same locker when you return in August. Locks will be cut off and contents will be disposed of after May 12th. If you have any questions or cannot remember your lock combination, please contact Debbie Mondares.

Orange County Great American Write-In: Join Women For: Orange County on Saturday, May 6th at 9:30am to 1:30pm at Delhi Community Center in Santa Ana, CA to meet representatives of local and national advocacy groups, learn about current vital issues and raise your voice by writing to legislators and decision-makers who can make a difference. Get free tickets and more information here.

Jessup International Law Moot Court TeamApply and join the world's largest moot court competition and compete against other law schools. Four new team members will be selected. Application deadline is May 29th.

Publish Your Student Note: The UCI Law Review is soliciting student notes and comments on any topic for an upcoming issue. Please review the content guidelines and send your submission to lawreview.articles@lawnet.uci.edu by Friday, May 12th.

Public Interest Summer Internship Primer: Join Equal Justice Works virtually for a three-day public interest primer on May 31st to June 2nd that is designed to help students prepare for their summer legal internships. Register to attend.

1LS: Hannah R. Arterian Memorial Scholarship Drawing: This $50,000 MAX by AccessLex Scholarship is open until May 1st to all 1L Max participants who complete the entire eight-lesson Financial Foundations course and attend at least two MAX events. Please read the official rules and details for more information.

UCI Initiative to End Family Violence (IEFV): Call for Graduate Student Fellows: These fellowships support graduate or professional students whose research has the potential to prevent, intervene in, or end family violence or gender-based violence. Fellows will receive $3,000 to support their research or conference travel expenses for the presentation of research regarding family violence or gender-based violence. The deadline to apply is May 8th. More details here

1Ls: Law scholarships are available in the following areas: Environmental Law (Apply), Center for Law, Equality and Race (Apply), and International Law (Apply). A Public Service scholarship is also available: Current Student Public Service Scholarship (Apply). The application deadline is April 28th. Please see the email you received from Director Nasreen Zia on April 4th for more details.

The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Scholarship: The Women Lawyers of Los Angeles (WLALA) provides tuition scholarships to law students who have demonstrated a commitment to issues affecting women, children, minorities, or other historically marginalized group and who intend to practice law in or engage in legal work that affects LA County. The deadline to apply for this one-time tuition scholarship of a minimum of $5,000 is April 30th.

2Ls: Mike Edison Law Student Scholarship: The Women Trail Lawyers Caucus awards a $5,000 scholarship to a female student entering her third year who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer. The winner will receive a registration and travel stipend to attend the AAJ Annual Convention. Application deadline is May 1st. 

ABA LGBT Public Interest Scholarship: The SOGI Commission is now accepting applications through April 28th for Summer and Fall 2023! This scholarship is intended for law students and/or recent law school graduates studying for the Bar who are either LGBTQ+ or who will be working in the LGBTQ+ space doing public interest work. One or more scholarships of up to $5000 each are awarded annually. Further information about the application process can be found here.         

AccessLex Institute Center for Education and Financial Capability provides the following opportunities and resources to help you as you work to evaluate your financial options this year:

  1. Register for your free account at AskEDNA.AccessLex.org and complete the course in your year 1L, 2L, 3L. This earns you scholarship entries for the $330,000 AccessLex Institute gives away to law students each year, just for learning more about their personal finances. That is $5,000 twice a year to 12 students, and once a year--$25,000 to six students, and $40,000 to three students.
  2. Check out the MAX by AccessLex Hannah R. Arterian Memorial Scholarship. Annually, one 1L MAX participant who completes the eight-part Financial Foundation course and attends at least two MAX events will be automatically entered to win a $50,000 scholarship toward their remaining law school tuition. The first drawing of the Scholarship will take place on May 1, 2023. 

2Ls: Annual Bay Area Diversity Career Fair: BADCF will be held virtually on July 13th and 14th for students to engage with leading law firms, corporate in-house legal departments, government agencies, nonprofit and other private/public legal employers. Register by Monday, June 19th to attend!
