Announcements and Deadlines

Half Way Done Party: Please join us in the courtyard on Monday, January 11th at 12:00pm to honor and celebrate 2Ls who are half done with law school! Cake will be served. Please note that if it rains, we will celebrate in the California Room (first floor in the library).

U.S. News Town Hall with the Dean: Please join Dean Parrish on January 12th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm in EDU 1111 to discuss the U.S. News rankings and the law school's decision to no longer provide propriety data to them. Please do not miss this opportunity to ask Dean Parrish any questions you have about this important topic! You may also submit questions in advance by January 11th at 5:00pm. If you would like to attend virtually, please refer to Sam Domingo's email on January 5th for the zoom link.

Community Care Fair: Come and learn about some of the many resources within the UCI community that are available to UCI Law students! Staff from different resource centers on the UCI campus will be in the law school courtyard on Wednesday, January 11th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm to share information about their services that are available to you. Please don't miss on this wonderful opportunity to meet and speak with them!

1Ls:  Many of you have asked questions about how the grading curve works at UCI Law and what your grades mean. To help you better understand your grades, which will be released on Thursday, January 12, we have planned two mandatory workshops via Zoom (links will be emailed before the events):

  1. On Friday, January 13th, at 10:30-11:00am, Vice Dean Chris Whytock will explain the 1L grading curve. Student Affairs Dean Jennah Jones, ASP Professor Queena Mewers, CDO Dean Jasminder Deol, and Student Services Dean Kyle Jones will also be available to answer questions.
  2. On Tuesday, January 17th, at 5:00-6:00pm, ASP and CDO will address how to respond productively to your fall semester performance.  We will teach you how to learn from your fall semester exams, tweak your study strategies, develop positive relationships with your professors, create a career development plan, tackle job interviews, and more. Guest speakers include 1L Professors Chris Whytock and Ken Simons, as well as Community Fellows Grace Palcic (2L, SBA President) and Elizabeth Duran (3L, Co-Chair of the Mental Health in Law Society).

Pro Bono: Alternative Spring Break Application is now open! If you are interested in volunteering over Spring Break, please submit your application no later than January 13th! For those that missed the information session, please feel free to watch the recording.

The UCL Institute ConferenceThe Antitrust & Unfair Competition Law Section's UCL Institute will feature leading UCL practitioners from across the private and public sector on January 12th from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Los Angeles, CA. Register HERE

National District Attorneys Association Job Fair: Students who have a passion for advocating for the rights of all involved in the criminal justice system are encourged to attend on January 29th-30th at Hotel Washington in Washington, DC. Registration and additional information can be found HERE

Orange County Bar Association's Creating a Prison to University Pipeline: Prison Education and the New "Clean Slate" Laws: This Continuing Legal Education (CLE) will provide an overview on Tuesday, February 7th at 4:30pm to 7:00pm in EDU 1111 of LIFTED (Leveragin Inspiring Futures Through Education), a new University of California, Irvine initiative offering a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) to incaracerated students and will address legal policy issues facing incarcerated students, in particular, access to federal financial aid in and after prison. Please register to attend.

A Free Career Program for Native American Students: Cutting Sign to the Legal Profession: Native American students are welcome to register and attend this free program on Febuary 17th-18th at the University of Utah, hosted by the universities of Idaho, Utah, and Washington. Students will attend a series of panels regarding firms, public interest jobs, non-traditional jobs, government positions, and judicial clerkships. Students will participate in interviews with various employers, and 1Ls will receive focused support to help hone their resumes and cover letters. Current details can found be found HERE.

Ms. JD's National Women Law Students' Organization (NWLSO) will be hosting the Leadership Academic Intensive on March 17th-18th at the Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C. This intensive will feature impactful leadership workshops, inspiring panel discussions, and an empowering keynote conversation. The deadline to apply is January 31st

AccessLex Institute Center for Education and Financial Capability provides the following opportunities and resources to help you as you work to evaluate your financial options this year:

  1. Register for your free account at AskEDNA.AccessLex.org and complete the course in your year 1L, 2L, 3L. This earns you scholarship entries for the $330,000 AccessLex Institute gives away to law students each year, just for learning more about their personal finances. That is $5,000 twice a year to 12 students, and once a year--$25,000 to six students, and $40,000 to three students.
  2. Check out the MAX by AccessLex Hannah R. Arterian Memorial Scholarship. Annually, one 1L MAX participant who completes the eight-part Financial Foundation course and attends at least two MAX events will be automatically entered to win a $50,000 scholarship toward their remaining law school tuition. The first drawing of the Scholarship will take place on May 1st. 

2023 Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE): Registration for the March 2023, August 2023 and the November 2023 MPRE's are now open. For more information about the exam, the registration process, and test accomodations, please visit MPRE Registration Information.
