Mock Trial Program: Wednesday, September 23, 6:00 pm, EDU 1121: Join the UCI Law Mock Trial program for our fifth weekly meeting - Trial Objections! This week we will practice applying the Federal Rules of Evidence in a trial setting, including a brief review of the key rules and their underlying rationale, how to make speaking objection arguments, and specific strategies to employ. All are welcome! Email lawmocktrial@lawnet.uci.edu with any questions.

Your Seat at the Table: October 8, 12:30pm - 1:15pm, Virtual and Watch Party in MPAA 430: Join the UCDC Law Program for a special virtual conversation with UC Berkeley Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky and Congressman Jamie Raskin as they discuss the importance of law, public service, and engaging in the work of government. This conversation will explore why Washington, D.C. remains such an important place for law students to learn, connect, and make an impact. Law & Economics Center (LEC) Law Student Writing Competition: (LEC) at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School in Arlington, Virginia invites law students from across the country to submit an original, law review-style paper for a nationwide Writing Competition. Winning students will present their papers at a one-day public conference at Scalia Law School in April, 2027. Travel and lodging to the conference will be covered by the LEC. Students must submit their papers by January 18, 2027 at 5:00 pm eastern time.
Justice Stephen K. Tamura Foundation Scholarship: The UC Irvine School of Law, Office of Student Financial Services is pleased to announce two $2,500 scholarships provided by the Justice Stephen K. Tamura Foundation. See Nasreen Zias' 9/17 email for additional information.

LLSA Legal Spanish Workshop: September 30, 12:00pm - 1:30pm, LAW 3750: Join LLSA for the opportunity to build and strengthen your legal Spanish skills at our Legal Spanish Workshop! We will be hosting a presentation taught by Lecturer Ayami Nieves and Court Interpreter Guillermo Peral, followed by an opportunity to practice under professional supervision and advice. FBA LA: Judicial Clerkship and Externship Panel Discussion: October 2, 5:00pm - 6:30pm, United States District Courthouse, 350 W. First Street, Los Angeles, Courtroom 8C (8th Floor): This panel for students interested in judicial clerkships and externships will feature speaker Chief District Judge Dolly M. Gee. She will be joined by a panel of Federal practitioners who have served as clerks and externs. The event is free of charge and light snacks will be provided. SAVE THE DATE: What the Constitution Means to Me: October 3, 7:00pm, The Little Theatre: A collaboration between the UCI Drama Department, Tia La'ulusa, a second-year law student at UCI, and her wonderful colleagues Robyn Cohen and Timothy Thomas Brown has culminated in a production of Heidi Schreck's timely and acclaimed play, What the Constitution Means to Me, to be performed on October 3rd at 7 p.m. at the Little Theatre on campus. Dean Parrish will be joining us for a post-show discussion. This will be a performance for students and faculty from the UCI School of Law and the UCI School of the Arts, as well as guests they would like to bring. Law and Justice Workshop Series: 12:00pm - 1:00pm, NEW LOCATION - EDU 1111: Our Justice as Lens initiative launched in 2025 with a series of community conversations that sparked engaged, wide-ranging discussions about the intersection of justice and law. The Law & Justice Workshop Series builds on that momentum with convenings that provide a chance to dig into justice-infused topics and critical perspectives through the lens of first-year courses, alongside the faculty who teach them.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
ULEI Student-to-Student Legal English Conversation: The Ukraine Legal English Initiative (ULEI) is excited to launch the fourth consecutive semester of student-to-student Legal English Conversation for Ukrainian law students. We're looking for volunteers who are English speaking law students, whether from the US or any other country. You can sign up with this Google Form.
OCHBA Scholarship Opportunities: Applications for OCHBA’s Wally Davis Scholarship (up to $40,000 will be awarded to up to four 1Ls and 2Ls) and OCHBA’s Bar Stipend (up to $6,000 will be awarded to up to four 3Ls) are available now. Winners will be invited to attend the OCHBA’s annual gala, where their awards will be announced.
Lexis Office Hours: LexisNexis is excited to offer office hours at UCI Law, hosted by your Lexis Associates, a few times a week. These sessions are open to any student with questions about legal research or how to get the most out of your Lexis subscription. Whether you’re stuck on a search, want a walkthrough of a feature you haven’t tried, or just want tips to research more efficiently, stop by — no appointment necessary. Passcode: LexOH.
Campus Resources: Law students can benefit from services at the Law School and on Main Campus. On our Campus Resources webpage you will find a variety of resources that we encourage you to take advantage of. Dr. J is our liaison to each of these offices, so please be in touch with her if you need any additional assistance!
On-site Counseling: The Counseling Center has a law school satellite office located in MPAA 210F, where Dr. Diana Chan will provide short-term therapy to help you address your concerns. Therapy is provided virtually and in-person during the academic year. Common concerns include relationship issues, academic concerns, trouble adjusting to law school, anxiety, depression, etc. You can schedule an appointment with Dr. Chan by calling (949) 824-6457. Please specify that you would like to see Dr. Chan at the law school.
Know Your Rights: Refer to the information in this Know Your Rights guide provided by UCOP for immigrant legal services. Copies have been posted on the student bulletin boards within the Law School and pocket/wallet-sized cards are available for pickup in the Student Affairs and Student Services Suite (MPAA 210). The suite also has red cards available from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.
