1Ls: Save the Date: Mandatory Zoom Workshop on Understanding Grades & Strategies for the Spring Semester:  Friday, January 9, TBD:  During this workshop, Vice Dean Trilby Robinson-Dorn will explain the 1L grading curve and how to understand your grades. Your ASP Professors will offer tips and strategies on how to learn from your fall semester performance, tweak your study strategies, and develop positive relationships with your professors.

3Ls: Bar Prep Class Update for Spring: Refer to Mary Basick's 11/19 email for full details. 

2026 Graduates: Commencement Survey: We are so excited to celebrate this amazing milestone with you! To ensure all our planning goes smoothly, you will need to complete an important survey. Please keep an eye out for this survey link being sent out via email before winter break. There will action you must take to participate in the ceremony.

2Ls & 3Ls: CDO BigLaw Interview Advice Survey: If you have interview advice you would like to share with 1Ls, please complete this survey by 5pm on December 4.

1Ls: More Biglaw firms have scheduled in-person receptions and “Home for the Holidays” events. Check LEO for locations that interest you. While events are after finals, some RSVP deadlines are during finals.

1Ls: PracticePro Scholars Program: The PracticePro Scholars Program is a coaching, training, and recruiting program designed to help law students secure employment while simultaneously preparing them with the skills and knowledge they need to flourish in their careers. Benefits provided to students admitted to the program include participation in 1L Resume Collect, recommendations for employment and scholarships to firm partners, and access to PracticePro alumni groups and directory. Read application instructions here. Apply by January 7 at 11:59PST.

Disability:IN - NextGen Leaders: Disability:IN has opened its application period for its NextGen Leaders Initiatives for students with disabilities. NextGen Leaders are matched with one-on-one mentors for Disability:IN corporate partners across all industries as part of a six-month mentorship program. Apply here by December 5 at 8:59pm.

Know Your RightsRefer to the information in this Know Your Rights guide provided by UCOP for immigrant legal services. Copies have been posted on the student bulletin boards within the Law School and pocket/wallet-sized cards are available for pickup in the Student Affairs and Student Services Suite (MPAA 210).  The suite also has red cards available from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center. You can also book an appointment with the new UC Irvine Staff Attorney, Sergio Giro.

Announcement Reminders

Law Library Announcement: As finals and the holiday season approach, here are a few reminders to help make the library a better study space. 1) Do not leave any items in the library over closure periods. These include the Thanksgiving break from November 27-29 and the holiday break at the end of the year. There will be no access to the building during these closures. 2)  Be considerate of the library space as you use it! Please do not leave unsealed food or drinks unattended for long periods of time, and try to make library amenities such as bookstands and lamps available for your colleagues after you're done using them. With those in mind, contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Happy studies!

Fall 2025 Instructor and Course Evaluations: Refer to Marisella Galindo’s 11/10 email for information on how to complete an evaluation.

Spring 2026 Tuition, Fees, and Disbursement: Tuition and fees for the Spring 2026 semester have now been assessed. Your spring semester scholarships and federal student loans will be disbursed to your ZOT Account by November 15. Remaining balances must be paid by 4pm on December 15. For more details, refer to Nasreen Zia’s email from 11/3. 

2Ls: 2L Bar Prep & Spring Course Selection: ASP has created a short 5-minute video to help you strategically select your Spring 2026 courses as you think ahead to the bar exam. Refer to ASP's email from 11/4 for the video link.  

3Ls: Spring Bar Prep & Course Selection: ASP has created informational videos and a Bar Exam Planning Guide to help you select your Spring 2026 courses. Refer to ASP’s email from 11/4 for more information.

2Ls & 3Ls: Advanced Core Clinic: Approval must be obtained from clinical faculty no later than four weeks prior to the start of the semester.  Refer to Debi Gloria’s email from 11/4 for details.

1Ls: If you have not already done so, register (required) for CEB’s AccessLaw program ASAP. Refer to Naomi Aguilar’s 11/12 email for more details.

3Ls: The Flo Forward 3L ScholarshipThis scholarship supports law students in their final year of law school as they prepare to transition from the classroom to practice. Learn more and apply apply here by January 15.

CAREER FAIRS

1Ls: Summer Associate Hub West Coast Job Fair + Interview Program: February 6, 2026; Los Angeles: This in-person interview program is for 1Ls interested in summer associate positions on the West Coast. The program has two components: Networking Reception (9am-12pm) and Interview Program (10:30am-5pm). Pre-registration opens Monday, November 17 at 2pm. Pre-registration does not guarantee you a spot. All students who pre-register will be added to a waitlist and your status will be updated in November. Spots will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis per school. All students are welcome to attend the Networking Reception. Pre-register here.

All students who pre-register will be added to a waitlist and your status will be updated in November. Spots will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis per school. A limited number of travel stipends will be offered to students traveling from outside NYC. All students are welcome to attend the Networking Reception. Pre-register here.

1Ls: Summer Associate Hub IP Virtual Interview Program: January 30, 2026: This program is open to current 1Ls (Class of 2028) with a technical degree (based on USPTO Patent Bar eligibility) interested in practicing patent law and seeking summer associate openings for 1L Summer in 2026 and/or 2L Summer in 2027. Register here ASAP, as registration is on a rolling basis.

Lexis' Legal Research Office Hours: The 2025-2026 Lexis Student Representatives are hosting Legal Research Office Hours throughout the semester. Hours, locations, and Zoom links are provided below:

IMPORTANT information from Human Resources: If you plan on working for the University as a student assistant or legal research assistant, please remember that you must complete your in-person onboarding appointment before you can work. If you start working before you are cleared for work, you will not get paid for the hours. You will receive an email from RAhiring@law.uci.edu once you are cleared to work. If you're uncertain if you have been cleared, please email hr@law.uci.edu and they will provide you an update.

Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) Academic Solutions: CEB, a nonprofit program of the University of California, is California’s leading provider of legal research and practice guidance. Through its AccessLaw program, law students receive free access to CEB’s full suite of resources, with an additional 18-months of access after graduation. CEB offers trusted practice guides, sample forms, workflows, and legal research tools across 30+ practice areas, developed with contributions from over 1,200 California attorneys and judges. These resources help bridge the gap between law school and practice, giving you the same tools attorneys rely on every day. CalFresh + Government Shutdown: The issuance of CalFresh benefits for November are expected to be delayed due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. Please view further details related to the delay and resources to stay supported in this document.  Students can stay updated on the status of university-wide operations at this official Federal Government Shutdown website by UC Irvine. The team at the Basic Needs Center is currently planning measures to support students impacted by the delays in early November. Further information will be announced at the end of October via the newsletterInstagram, and website.
