UCI Law EDI Committee Series: “L.A. Immigration Raids: A Test of Executive Power and Police Violence against Protesters and the Press”: October 1, 12:00pm-1:00pm; EDU 1131: The UCI Law EDI Committee invites you to join us in the next discussion in our series, The Limits of Executive Power: Professor Sameer Ashar will moderate a panel including Professors Annie Lai, Paul Hoffman, and Susan Seager about legal challenges to immigration raids and police brutality against protesters and the press in Southern California. Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) Annual Jurist Spotlight: September 29, 4:30pm-6:30pm; Virtual: OCBA Education Committee presents Justice David Souter as this year's OCBA Annual Jurist Spotlight. This event is free to law students. Advance registration is required. Register here by September 24.
LLSA Legal Spanish Workshop: October 3, 12:00pm-1:30pm; EDU 1111: Latinx Law Students Association (LLSA), the Dean's Office and the EDI Committee are collaboratively presenting the Legal Spanish Workshop. Lecturer Ayami Nieves, instructor for UC Irvine Law's Legal Spanish course, and Guillermo Peral, a Court certified Spanish Interpreter, will lead a foundational presentation and practice session for all participants, and provide take-home materials. RSVP for lunch by Wednesday, October 1.
National Plaintiffs Law Association (NPLA) Plaintiffs' Side Job Fair: October 22-24; Virtual: NPLA is hosting their 3rd annual Plaintiffs' Side Job Fair. The NPLA job fair is fully virtual and free for all NPLA Student Members. Review Plaintiffs' Side Job Fair posting in LEO for registration details.
Orange County Trial Lawyers Association (OCTLA) Membership: OCTLA offers free memberships to law students looking to be more involved with the Orange County legal community. Membership provides access to exclusive events, networking and mentoring opportunities, and more. Review the OCTLA Membership page for details.
Know Your Rights: Refer to the information in this Know Your Rights guide provided by UCOP for immigrant legal services. Copies have been posted on the student bulletin boards within the Law School and pocket/wallet-sized cards are available for pickup in the Student Affairs and Student Services Suite (MPAA 210). The suite also has red cards available from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.
