UPCOMING EVENTS

The "Limits on Executive Power" Series: September 10, 12:00pm-1:00pm; MPAA 420: Join the EDI Committee for the next session in its series the “Limits of Executive Power.” Prof. Christopher Williams will discuss, “What is Critical Race Theory and Why is the President of the U.S. Concerned?” CRT has been bandied about in the media, especially social media, as dangerous, and there have been efforts to ban CRT from study at various educational institutions. Join this conversation to get facts and understanding. RSVP for lunch by Friday, September 5 at 11:59pm. 

"Sips & Stories: An Alumni & Student Mixer": September 20, 5:00pm-6:00pm; LAW Courtyard: We are welcoming the Class of 2015 and 2020 for a 10-and 5-year Reunion. Current students are invited to attend this mixer. RSVP by Friday, September 12.

UC Irvine Law Endowed Faculty Celebration: September 24, 4:30pm-6:00pm; DCE Courtyard: UC Irvine Law celebrates the appointments of Professor Richardson as Chancellor's Professor of Law and Professor Robinson-Dorn as Myron and Sonya Glassberg Chair in Environmental Law. RSVP by Tuesday, September 16.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Updated Student Forms: Refer to Dean Jennah Jones' 8/11 email for more information on updates and how to access your student forms.

Preferred Names: Students can submit a preferred name via StudentAccess, which will replace their legal name on certain University records, including transcripts and diplomas. To avoid having a preferred name on diplomas, students must remove it in StudentAccess before commencement. More details are available here.

2Ls & 3Ls: Fall Interview Program (FIP): This program brings together law firms, government agencies, and public interest organizations interested in interviewing UC Irvine Law students for both summer and post-graduate positions. Review job postings and application deadlines in the Interview Programs tab under Jobs & Interview Programs in LEO. Refer to Dean Deol's 8/11 email for more information.

Requesting Disability Accommodations: Refer to Dean Jones' 8/19 email for information on how to obtain disability accommodations.

UC Irvine Law Student's Mandatory Training: All students are required to complete the assigned sexual harassment training each academic year. Failure to complete course will result in an account hold for spring course registration. Deadline for course completion is Friday, October 24.  Refer to Dean Jones' 8/18 email for course access and additional information.

1Ls: Registration with the California Bar: All students who are planning to take the California Bar Exam must register with the California Bar. Refer to Dean Jones' 8/20 email for further instruction.

CAREER FAIRS & CONFERENCES

2025 Cal-Asian Pacific American Bar Association (Cal-APABA) Orange County Conference: September 5-7; Westin Hotel, Costa Mesa: Cal-APABA is hosting their Empowered & Engaged: The AAPI Bar in Action Conference that will focus on rebuilding the pipeline to attorney success, starting with the next generation. Scholarships are available here to students to help cover conference costs.

2Ls & 3Ls: 2025 Equal Justice Works Virtual Career Fair: October 16-18: Join the largest public interest career fair in the nation, featuring over 250 employers from across the country for three days of pre-scheduled interviews. Registration is now open and apply for pre-scheduled interviews by Friday, September 19 at 9:00am. Refer to Dean Deol's 8/11 email for further details.

2Ls & 3Ls: Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)The WRP is a recruitment program that connects students with disabilities to career development and potential employment opportunities. WRP creates a database for federal and interested private-sector employers nationwide to find students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace through internships or permanent jobs. To participate in this program students must register and upload a Schedule A Letter from a licensed medical professional. Applications open Monday, August 25 and will close on Friday, October 10. If you have questions, please contact UC Irvine Law's WRP coordinator, Leslie Parrish, at lparrish@law.uci.edu or 949-824-3321.

CAREER ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

1Ls: 2025-2026 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Success in Law School Mentoring ProgramThis mentoring program offers one-on-one mentoring with an attorney and free access to webinar series, monthly resources, and more. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first serve basis until Friday, November 21. Review the student flyer for more information.

National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) Mentorship Program: The NACBA Mentorship Program offers students one-on-one mentorship, resources and more from consumer bankruptcy attorneys. Watch the NACBA Mentorship Program Overview Video for details.

American Bar Association (ABA) Business Law Section Fall Meeting: September 18-20; Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Toronto, Canada: Students are invited to participate in the ABA Business Law Section Fall Meeting to learn more about the developing trends and innovations happening in business law. Meeting registration is complimentary for law students. Students can also participate in the Law Student Scholars Program, which is designed to help law students navigate Section Meetings, connect with business lawyers, and learn more about a career in business law. Deadline to sign up for the Law Student Scholar Program is September 17. Review the Law Student Scholar Program website for more information on program benefits and requirements.

2025-2026 Student Bar Association (SBA) Fall Elections: Students interested in running for a board position may submit their candidacy statements here. Deadline to submit candidacy forms is Friday, August 29 at 5:00pm. Refer to Dr. J's 8/20 email for timeline and open positions.

Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) Law Student MembershipAs a member of the OCBA, students can connect with the legal community by attending an array of OCBA social events and community outreach activities that focus on professional growth and are a great resource to explore various areas of law. American Society of International Law (ASIL): Students members receive information on the latest developments in international law, access to a larger community of international law professionals, and innumerable opportunities for professional development and public outreach. Military Spouse J.D Network (MSJDN) MembershipThe MSJDN is a national bar association supporting military spouses in the legal profession through advocacy, mentorship, career tools, and a strong peer network. Student membership allows access to job board, volunteer opportunities, and annual career conference. Review MSJDN website for additional information regarding membership and programs offered.

Know Your Rights: Refer to the information in this Know Your Rights guide provided by UCOP for immigrant legal services. Copies have been posted on the student bulletin boards within the Law School and pocket/wallet-sized cards are available for pickup in the Student Affairs and Student Services Suite (MPAA 210).  The suite also has red cards available from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.
