New Announcements and Deadlines

Welcome to the 2025 Fall Semester! Classes begin on Monday, August 18.

UPCOMING EVENTS

1Ls: Law School Resources Open House: Monday, August 18, 12:00pm-1:00pm; Start on MPAA 4th Floor: Join us on the first day of classes for our annual Open House. First, pick up a game board in MPAA 410 then visit each office on the game board to collect stamps. Once you've gathered all the stamps, head to the courtyard for a pizza lunch. Snacks, cold brew, and UC Irvine Law swag will be available along the way, while supplies last!

Student Involvement Fair: Thursday, August 21, 12:00pm-1:00pm; LAW Courtyard: Meet representatives from various student groups and discover how to get involved in this amazing community!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Updated Student Forms: Refer to Dean Jennah Jones' email from 8/11 for more information on updates and how to access your student forms.

Preferred Names: Students can submit a preferred name via StudentAccess, which will replace their legal name on certain University records, including transcripts and diplomas. To avoid having a preferred name on diplomas, students must remove it in StudentAccess before commencement. More details are available here.

2Ls & 3Ls: Fall Interview Program (FIP): This program brings together law firms, government agencies, and public interest organizations interested in interviewing UC Irvine Law students for both summer and post-graduate positions. Review job postings and application deadlines in the Interview Programs tab under Jobs & Interview Programs in LEO. Refer to Dean Deol's email from 8/11 for more information. For more information, stop by FIP Office Hours in the LAW Courtyard on Wednesday, August 20 from 12:00pm-1:00pm.

Tune in Tuesdays: August 26, September 30, October 28, 9:00am-10:00am: Professor Song and Professor Richardson are hosting a meditative gathering once a month to invite students to an inclusive and inviting space to reflect and recharge. Space is limited and deadline to RSVP is Friday, August 22. Coffee and donuts will be provided by the Korea Law Center.

CAREER FAIRS & CONFERENCES

2025 Cal-Asian Pacific American Bar Association (Cal-APABA) Orange County Conference: September 5-7; Westin Hotel, Costa Mesa: Cal-APABA is hosting their Empowered & Engaged: The AAPI Bar in Action Conference that will focus on rebuilding the pipeline to attorney success, starting with the next generation. Scholarships are available here to students to help cover conference costs.

2Ls & 3Ls: 2025 Equal Justice Works Virtual Career Fair: October 16-18: Join the largest public interest career fair in the nation, featuring over 250 employers from across the country for three days of pre-scheduled interviews. Registration is now open and apply for pre-scheduled interviews by Friday, September 19 at 9:00am. Refer to Dean Deol's email on 8/11 for further details.

2Ls & 3Ls: National Plaintiff's Law Association (NPLA) Shades of Mass Conference: September 4-6, Los Angeles: NPLA is offering scholarships to attend their fourth annual Shades of Mass Conference for students interested in a career in plaintiffs' law. Scholarships will cover registration fees and some other costs of attendance. Apply by Monday, August 18 at 11:59pm. Review website for scholarship application requirements.

CAREER ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

1Ls: 2025-2026 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Success in Law School Mentoring ProgramThis mentoring program offers one-on-one mentoring with an attorney and free access to webinar series, monthly resources, and more. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first serve basis until Friday, November 21. Review the student flyer for more information.

National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) Mentorship Program: The NACBA Mentorship Program offers students one-on-one mentorship, resources and more from consumer bankruptcy attorneys. Watch the NACBA Mentorship Program Overview Video for details.

American Bar Association (ABA) Business Law Section Fall Meeting: September 18-20; Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Toronto, Canada: Students are invited to participate in the ABA Business Law Section Fall Meeting to learn more about the developing trends and innovations happening in business law. Meeting registration is complimentary for law students. Students can also participate in the Law Student Scholars Program, which is designed to help law students navigate Section Meetings, connect with business lawyers, and learn more about a career in business law. Deadline to sign up for the Law Student Scholar Program is September 17. Review the Law Student Scholar Program website for more information on program benefits and requirements.

Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) Law Student MembershipAs a member of the OCBA, students can connect with the legal community by attending an array of OCBA social events and community outreach activities that focus on professional growth and are a great resource to explore various areas of law. Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA): Reap numerous benefits, including opportunities to network with L.A. attorneys and judges, attend both informational and informal events, and be part of LACBA's popular Barristers/Young Attorneys Section. Start your free membership today.

Federal Bar AssociationThis includes up to three years of associate membership while enrolled in law school as well as free first-year membership as a professional member upon graduation. Learn more about this program here and apply today!

California Lawyers Association (CLA): As a member, students can join up to three sections offered by the CLA. Membership benefits include scholarships, mentoring programs, fellowships, writing competitions and more! Apply today.

American Society of International Law (ASIL): Students members receive information on the latest developments in international law, access to a larger community of international law professionals, and innumerable opportunities for professional development and public outreach. Military Spouse J.D Network (MSJDN) MembershipThe MSJDN is a national bar association supporting military spouses in the legal profession through advocacy, mentorship, career tools, and a strong peer network. Student membership allows access to job board, volunteer opportunities, and annual career conference. Review MSJDN website for additional information regarding membership and programs offered.

Announcement Reminders

2Ls & 3Ls: National Law Students Workers' Rights Conference: Peggy Browning Fund is holding their annual Workers' Rights Conference in Baltimore, MD on October 17 & 18. Scholarships are available to help cover the cost of attendance, travel, and more. Apply for a scholarship here by September 1, 2025.

2Ls: Transcript Pick Up: As part of preparation for EIW, the CDO orders transcripts for all members of the rising 2L class. If you would like to pick up a copy of your official transcript, please contact your primary counselor. Deadline for transcript pick up is August 29.

3Ls: Academic Skills Program Upcoming Events: Additional details can be found in Dean Basick's email from 8/4.

  1. Complete this ASP Survey to assist ASP in creating customized bar prep programming by Wednesday, September 3 at 5:00 p.m.
  2. Pre-Bar Prep Planning Workshop: August 28, 12:00pm-1:00pm; EDU 1131: This workshop will discuss administrative tasks students need to complete now to sit for the bar exam, information about the content and format of the bar exam, and a preview of bar prep.   Students are highly encouraged to attend if they are sitting for the bar exam in February 2026, July 2026, or February 2027. RSVP for lunchby Sunday, August 25th at 11:59pm.
  3. Bar Prep Vendor Fair: August 28, 10:00am-3:00pm; LAW Courtyard: For more information on bar prep courses offered by BARBRI, Helix Bar Review, and Themis Bar Review.

Know Your Rights: Refer to the information in this Know Your Rights guide provided by UCOP for immigrant legal services. Copies have been posted on the student bulletin boards within the Law School and pocket/wallet-sized cards are available for pickup in the Student Affairs and Student Services Suite (MPAA 210).  The suite also has red cards available from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.
