UCI Law Student Newsletter January 5, 2024
New Announcements and Deadlines

1Ls:  Many of you have asked questions about how the grading curve works at UCI Law and what your grades mean. To help you better understand your grades, which will be released on Thursday, January 11, we have planned two mandatory workshops:

  1. On Friday, January 12, at 10:30-11:00am, Vice Dean Trilby Robinson-Dorn will explain the 1L grading curve. This workshop will be via Zoom only (link will be emailed separately).
  2. On Tuesday, January 16, at 10:30-1:00pm, ASP and CDO will address how to respond productively to your fall semester performance. We will teach you how to learn from your fall semester performance and tweak your study strategies, as well as create a career development plan and tackle job interviews. This workshop will be in person at Continuing Education’s Yosemite Room, and morning coffee and lunch with dessert will be provided.

Free Professional Photo Booth: UCI students and recent alumni can now benefit from free professional headshots to enhance their professional image, offered by the Division of Career Pathways (DCP). Details about this walk-in service can be found here.

California Lawyers Association (CLA) - Free Membership: Become a member to get access to Solo and Small Firm, as well as Law Practice Management and Technology sections. Monthly emails also provide vital information on fellowships, scholarships, events, and more! Apply here.

3Ls, LLMs, and Grad Tax Students: 2024 Tax Notes Student Writing Competition: Students have an opportunity to be recognized for superior writing on unsettled questions in tax law or policy. Winning entries are published in Tax Notes' weekly magazine, and authors receive a 12-month subscription to daily and weekly products. Review the guidelines and submit your paper by June 30 for a chance to contribute to the Tax Notes archives.
