UCI Law Student Newsletter June 23, 2023
Announcements and Deadlines

New BigLaw Research Resource: Students now have access to Firm Prospects, the first and only law firm intelligence platform built by former attorneys from international law firms, management consultants, and data scientists. This very helpful site provides a thorough snapshot of biglaw firms and individual offices (including detailed breakdowns of practice areas). Firm Prospects allows you to gather information much more easily and quickly deep dive into law firms and offices. It also includes attrition data (where attorneys go after the firm) that is not easily found anywhere, attorney (and alumni) contact information, and information on firm clients. Create your own account using your UCI Law email address to register. Please contact your CDO counselor if you have any questions.

2Ls: Early Interview Week (EIW) Updates:

  1. EIW Bidding deadline is 12:00pm on Monday, July, 3rd. Please review pages 20-22 of the EIW Student Guide for instructions for both EIW Bidding and Resume Collect, as well as pages 2-8 for instructions on how to research employers.
  2. Mock Interview Program: CDO highly encourages students to participate in this virtual program that will be held on July 10th to July 21st, between the hours of 8:00am to 6:00pm. Deadline to schedule your mock interview in LEO is Friday, July 7th at 2:00pm.
  3. OCI Prep: Major, Lindsey & Africa has a pre-recorded webinar that provides tips and tricks for OCI success and insights on topics such as what is OCI and why you should participate, the top five considerations in picking a law firm, how best to leverage various resources, and interview do's and don'ts.
  4. EIW resources are available on the CDO's On-Campus Interviewing page

U.S. Department of Justice Honors and Student Law Internship (SLIP) Program: Students who are interested in participating in this program are encouraged to review the following:

3Ls: Read more about entry-level hiring through the DOJ Honors Program, including the list of which components are hiring, eligibility requirements, and how to apply.

2Ls: Read more about SLIP, including the list of which components are hiring. Hiring through the SLIP programs is different than applying for volunteer positions within the DOJ, which you may have done for your 1L summer.

DOJ Informational Summer Webinars: Students are welcome to participate and learn about the Attorney General’s Honors Program (HP) and Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP), participating offices, eligibility requirements, and the application process. To view the schedule of webinars, please refer to Dean Deol's email on May 22nd.

2Ls and 3Ls: Bar Licensure Planning: ASP strongly recommends students review the 2L Licensure Planning Guide or 3L Licensure Planning Guide that explains how UCI's law school curriculum overlaps with what will be tested on the bar exam. You may also view a list of courses helpful for bar prep here.
