6th Annual UCI Law Intellectual Property & Patent Law Career Day: Please join us on Saturday, April 8th from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the California Room of the Law Library, EDU 1111 & EDU 1131. This event will educate students about IP law, career opportunities in IP law, and facilitate connections and relationships between the Southern California IP bar and UCI Law students. Equal Justice Works: Regional Public Interest Awards: Eight students throughout the country will be chosen to receive a Regional Public Interest Award for their innovation, impact, and commitment to public interest law. Recipients will receive a $250 cash prize and commemorative plaque. Application closes on April 9th. Additional information can be found here.
New York State Bar Association's 2023 Student Writing Competition: Students are invited to submit an article concerning any area of Animal Law. First place winner will received $1,000 and second place winner will receive $500. Both winners will receive a certificate of achievement. Third and fourth place winners will receive a certificate of recognition. All winners' submissions will be eligible for publication in the Committee's "Laws & Paws" publication. ABA LGBT Public Interest Scholarship: The SOGI Commission is now accepting applications through April 28th for Summer and Fall 2023! This scholarship is intended for law students and/or recent law school graduates studying for the Bar who are either LGBTQ+ or who will be working in the LGBTQ+ space doing public interest work. One or more scholarships of up to $5000 each are awarded annually. Further information about the application process can be found here.
MAX Grand Prize Drawing: AccessLex Institute's Center for Education and Financial Literacy has partnered with UCI Law to help support your financial wellness. As part of this partnership, students are eligible for the upcoming drawing that will have 9 winners in total: two $25,000 winners and one $40,000 winner in each class! To earn entries, you must complete the following before March 31st:
- First register for, or log on to your free account at AccessLex.org,
- Second, enter MAX by AccessLex® and go to “Upcoming MAX Events" and register for as many topics that appeal to you.
- To maximize your entries, complete the MAX course in your class year, and earn 10 additional bonus entries.
Legal Aid Association of CA's Dan Bradley Fellowship: The LAAC fellowship of up to $8,000 is awarded to students who want to pursue a career in public interest law and who want to spend their summer working on a rural or racial justice issue at a LAAC member legal aid organization. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 8th.
1Ls: The 2023 Robert Masur Fellowship: Applications are now open to all 1Ls who intend to contribute to the areas of civil rights and/or civil liberties during the summer by participating in a writing or research project, work with a public interest organization, work on a civil rights or civil liberties law case under the supervision of a faculty member or lawyer, or any other work in the areas of civil rights or civil liberties. Each fellow will receive a $2,000 honorarium. Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 21st.
2Ls: Ms. JD Fellowship Program: This program promotes mentorship and professional development for women-identifying law students. Each fellow will be matched with a practicing attorney mentor to help prepare them to enter the legal profession and will be invited to receive financial support to attend the Ms. JD's NWLSO Leadership Academy Intensive, as well as complete a project that benefits their community. The Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (WLALA): Fran Kandel Public Interest Fellowship: This fellowship enables law students to work with an organization or individually to develop and implement a project in the field of public interest law. Each Fellow may receive up to $6,000, which is intended to cover project expenses and provide a stipend. Applications are due by 5:00pm on April 14th.
