Announcements and Deadlines

2023 Commencement: This year's in-person commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 6th! Information regarding the keynote speaker, along with faculty and student speakers, will be announced in March. Please visit our website here to see details regarding tickets and seating, directions and parking, diplomas, reception details, regalia, and more!

Coffee & Donuts with Dean Parrish: Please come and chat with Dean Parrish while enjoying coffee and donuts! This informal event will be held on Monday, February 13th from 8:00am to 9:00am in the courtyard!

The Other Bar: This private, non-profit organization consists of a network of law students, lawyers, and judges throughout California who are dedicated to helping others within the legal community who are suffering from alcohol and substance abuse issues. They have been providing confidential recovery services for students for over forty years and are now holding weekly one-hour statewide law student recovery meetings via Zoom on Wednesdays at 8:00pm. Free Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA) Membership: BHBA is providing law students with a free BHBA membership, which gives access to networking, continuing education seminars on current topics, and other professional development opportunities! Law students will also be offered leadership roles throughout the bar that will benefit them as they begin their careers after graduation. Activate your free BHBA membership here.

Dorothy E. Roberts Public Interest Essay Competition: This competition is a national writing competition for student-authored articles on the topic of social justice and public interest law. The winner will receive a $5,000 grant to implement a public interest project related to the article and a $1,000 cash prize! Deadline to submit articles is February 15th. Now Influencing Today's Law Firm Culture: As a global legal search firm, Major, Lindsey & Africa aims to provide content and resources across the legal industry to help students with beginning and navigating their careers. To assist them in their efforts, please take this brief survey that will focus on your views and experiences as a law student that is entering the legal profession. To show their gratitude, Major, Lindsey & Africa will donate to One Tree Planted so that every response leads to one tree being planted.

AccessLex Institute Center for Education and Financial Capability provides the following opportunities and resources to help you as you work to evaluate your financial options this year:

Register for your free account at AskEDNA.AccessLex.org and complete the course in your year 1L, 2L, 3L. This earns you scholarship entries for the $330,000 AccessLex Institute gives away to law students each year, just for learning more about their personal finances. That is $5,000 twice a year to 12 students, and once a year--$25,000 to six students, and $40,000 to three students.
Check out the MAX by AccessLex Hannah R. Arterian Memorial Scholarship. Annually, one 1L MAX participant who completes the eight-part Financial Foundation course and attends at least two MAX events will be automatically entered to win a $50,000 scholarship toward their remaining law school tuition. The first drawing of the Scholarship will take place on May 1, 2023.
