  • Spring Interview Program: The 2018 Spring Interview Program is underway on Symplicity. Employers will schedule interviews with 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls either at UCI Law, by phone/skype, or at employer offices throughout February and March. You can access the session through the OCI module on the left side of your screen, by selecting the "UCI Law 2018 Spring Interview Program." Some upcoming deadlines include:

    • 1Ls & 2Ls: United States Small Business Administration (Santa Ana, CA) - January 26

  • 2018 Inaugural IP Patent Law Career Day: January 27 (Saturday), 9:00am-12:00pm, EDU 1111. All students interested in learning more about intellectual property and patent careers as well as about hot topics in IP are invited to attend!  No hard science background required!  Participating firms include Knobbe Martens, Snell & Wilmer, Haynes and Boone, Rutan & Tucker, McDermott Will & Emery, Jafari, Hankin Patent Law, Akin Gump, Greenberg Gross, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, and Gibson Dunn.
    • 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. - Plenary panel on careers in IP Law organized by the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association (LAIPLA).
    • 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. - Two concurrent panels on current hot topics in IP law organized by the Orange County Intellectual Property Association (OCIPLA).
    • 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. - Students will meet and mingle with firms in a tabling format in the law school courtyard.

           Students interested in attending must RSVP on Symplicity - if you don't have a hard science background, you are still encouraged to attend.

  • "By UCI, For UCI" Symplicity PostingsIf you see a posting in Symplicity with a title that starts with "By UCI, For UCI" it means that a UCI alum either works for or is closely connected to the employer and is hoping to help a UCI law student!
CDO Workshops
  • Introduction to Judicial Clerkships: January 26 (Friday), 12:00pm-1:00pm, EDU 1111. Is a judicial clerkship a great fit for your career path? Are you someone who might thrive in chambers? Join us to learn about the value of judicial clerkships for public and private sector careers. CDO clerkship advisor Betsy Gutting will moderate a panel including Professor Leah Litman and recent alumni who began their legal careers by clerking for a federal judge. Lunch will be served. RSVP on Symplicity to ensure lunch for all who attend.
  • 2Ls/3Ls: Ask a Federal Judge - Insider Tips for Landing a Clerkship: January 30 (Tuesday), 9:00am, MPAA 420. Join us for a special event that you should absolutely attend if you want to land a post-grad clerkship! UCI Law’s 2018 Moot Court Judge, the Honorable Mark Bennett, nationally esteemed United States district judge in the Northern District of Iowa, will share his secrets for securing a post-graduate clerkship. Bring your cover letters! Judge Bennett will provide tips for moving your application to the top of the pile, and provide personalized feedback on your letter. After his talk, Judge Bennett will review individual cover letters with students. This is a fantastic opportunity to be personally mentored by an accomplished federal judge!   • 1L Mock Interview Program: February 3 (Saturday), 12:00pm-3:00pm. There is no better way to prepare for a PICD interview than to do a mock interview. All 1Ls are invited to participate in this mock interview program featuring alumni interviewers. To sign-up for a time slot, RSVP on Symplicity by Monday, January 29th. Your specific mock interview time (between 12-3pm) will be emailed to you prior to the event. If you are only available for a certain portion of the scheduled program, please email Elexus Harris.
Opportunities
  • Federal Communication Commission Internship Webinar: February 2 (Friday), 12:00pm-1:00pm. The FCC's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau holds an internship program in Washington, D.C. where students gain hands-on experience in communications and administrative law matters. This online webinar will provide information on the program. The webinar can be found here, the meeting number is 991 053 237 and the meeting password is fcc123.
  • Public Interest/Public Sector Career Day (PICD): February 10 (Saturday), UCLA School of Law. Representatives from public interest organizations, government agencies and offices, and private public interest firms throughout Southern California will be in attendance to talk with and interview 1L, 2L, and 3L students. Consider carpooling with your classmates by connecting here.

  • Find Your Role in Commercial Real Estate Panel: February 20 (Tuesday), 6:00pm-8:00pm, UCI Executive Commons. Hosted by CREW Orange County, Real Estate Association at UCI, and the Women in Leadership student organization, this event is a networking opportunity for students interested in pursuing commercial real estate law careers. The panel will be followed by a Q&A, networking, and refreshments. RSVP here
  • The Wm. Matthew Byrne, Jr. Judicial Clerkship Institute: March 15-16 (Thursday-Friday), Malibu, CA. Pepperdine School of Law is pleased to invite those who will start a judicial clerkship within the next few years to attend the Judicial Clerkship Institute for a two-day intensive training session led by federal judges and top-notch academics.   • American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law Membership: Law students can sign up for five Sections free of charge in addition to free ABA membership. By signing up for the ABA-IPL Section, law students can utilize Section membership to discover more about careers in IP law and to get connected with like-minded law students and lawyers.
