2024 Orientation

Welcome to UCI School of Law! We are excited to have you join our community. Orientation is an introduction to your classmates, faculty, and other members of the law school family. It is also the beginning of your legal education, with a substantive program that will form the basis for a terrific experience here. All five days of Orientation are mandatory for all first year J.D. students.

Pre-Orientation and Post Orientation Sessions
There are three mandatory Orientation sessions that will be held outside of Orientation week. Two are videos you must watch in advance and the third will be held the first week of classes. Please see below for details.
- Information Technology Training
- Watch the IT session before Monday, August 12 at 3:00pm.
- Course Management Systems Training
- Watch the Course Management Systems Pre-Orientation Session by Monday, August 12 at 3:00pm.
- Building your Law School Budget
Equally important to your academic success is building a good financial foundation during your law school journey. There is a lot to consider regarding your law school budget—particularly if you are new to the area. To support your path to financial wellness, managing costs such as borrowing, and learning new financial strategies, take these next steps:- Attend the Building your Law School Budget-Mandatory 1L Workshop on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm in EDU 1111. Register here.
- Check out the UCI Law Outside Scholarships and AccessLex Scholarship Databank—it is never too early to start looking for free money for next year!

Orientation Schedule
A draft of your 2024 Orientation schedule can be found here. Please check back in August for updates. Orientation will begin on Monday, August 12 at the Continuing Education Building Courtyard (please see map for directions) at 3:00pm.
*UCI Law has water fill stations. We recommend bringing a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.

Save these Dates!
- Orientation (mandatory): Monday, August 12 through Friday, August 16. Registration begins on Monday for five fun (but intense!) days.
- Building your Law School Budget Workshop (mandatory): Wednesday, August 21.
- Mid-Semester Review Week: Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 18.
- Reading Period: Monday, December 2 through Thursday, December, 5.
- Exam Period: Friday, December 6 through Wednesday, December 18.
