California Attorney General Kamala Harris has appointed Prof. Katherine Porter to monitor the $18 billion mortgage settlement with five major banks, which have promised to reform lending practices and provide benefits to mortgage holders. The California settlement is part of a nationwide federal-state mortgage settlement penalizing robo-signing and other foreclosure misconduct that is pending approval in a federal court in Washington, D.C. "Professor Porter’s wealth of experience and knowledge will protect the interests of homeowners and ensure the settling banks will deliver on their promises," Harris said. More details in the AG's press release.
