Jonathan Abel

Visiting Assistant Professor of Law

Background:

Jonathan Abel is a visiting assistant professor at UCI Law. He is currently teaching two classes: Criminal Procedure and Statutory Analysis / Criminal Law. Jon worked as an attorney at the Habeas Corpus Resource Center (HCRC), where he represented indigent death-row prisoners in their state habeas corpus proceedings.  Prior to working at HCRC, he served as a judicial law clerk for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and as a fellow at Stanford's Constitutional Law Center. Jon is a 2012 graduate of Stanford Law School, where he was president of the Stanford Law Review. Prior to law school, he worked for four years as a journalist in Florida.

Jon's research interests include criminal procedure, public records, and the dynamics of the prosecution team. He has published articles in the Yale Law Journal, the Stanford Law Review, the Columbia Law Review, the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, and the Georgetown Law Journal.
