David Gurnick



David Gurnick is with the Lewitt Hackman firm in Los Angeles, California. He represents manufacturers, franchisors, cooperatives, distributors, dealers and franchisees in preparation of distribution agreements, franchise law compliance, antitrust and competition matters, government investigations, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, e-commerce and related litigation. He is certified by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in Franchising and Distribution Law, and is a Commissioner on the Board’s Franchise Law Advisory Committee.

David is author of Distribution Law of the United States, a treatise on laws and considerations in distributing products in the United States, and Franchising Depositions, a treatise on taking and defending depositions in franchising cases, both published by Juris Publishing. David’s writing in franchising has been cited by the California Supreme Court and in cooperatives has been cited by the California Courts of Appeal.  David has frequently been a panelist at the American Bar Association Forum on Franchising, and International Franchise Association Legal Symposium.  David previously served on the editorial board of the American Bar Association Franchise Law Journal. David is on the board of directors of the Valley Bar Mediation Center, a 501(c)(3) charity that promotes community through mediation and Chairs the Editorial Board of Valley Lawyer Magazine.

David is admitted in the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Ninth Circuit, and U.S. District Courts for the Central District and Eastern District of California. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1981 at UCLA graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa and his law degree in 1984 at the University California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. During law school, David served as Judicial Extern to the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
