Nefi Acosta



Nefi Acosta (he, him, his) is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Munger, Tolles & Olson whose practice focuses on data privacy and security, including litigation and compliance counseling.

Nefi has experience litigating in federal and state court, including writing dispositive motions, taking depositions, and managing all aspects of discovery. He is also experienced in advising public and private companies on compliance with data privacy and security regulations including the CCPA and GDPR. Nefi holds four credentials from the International Association of Privacy Professionals: he is a Certified Information Privacy Professional in both U.S. and European regulations (CIPP/US & CIPP/E), a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), and a Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT).

Prior to joining the firm, Nefi clerked for Judge Thelton E. Henderson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and was an extern for Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Nefi earned his law degree from UC Irvine School of Law, where he completed more than 200 hours of pro bono work and served as a lead article editor of the UC Irvine Law Review. During law school, he interned for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California and Kia Motors America, Inc.

Nefi has an active pro bono practice and serves on the board of directors for Community Legal Aid SoCal and the board of trustees for the Mexican American Bar Foundation.

Nefi is fluent in Spanish, was first in his family to graduate from college, and received his undergraduate degree in political science with a minor in automotive technology.

In his spare time, Nefi enjoys salsa dancing (On2), fixing cars, and woodworking.
