Community Launch of the
UCI Interdisciplinary Center on Family Violence

Friday, October 17, 2014, 1:30–4:00 p.m.

Delhi Center
505 E. Central Ave.
Santa Ana, CA 92707

UC Irvine’s new Interdisciplinary Center on Family Violence will unite community partners with faculty from 20 UCI departments. By bringing together expertise in biological and physical sciences, engineering, information and computer sciences, art, law, medicine and health sciences, social sciences and social ecology, the ICFV aims to be the premier site for research, education, clinical care and community collaboration on family violence prevention and intervention.

The center is led by Ellen Olshansky, professor of nursing science; Jane Stoever, assistant clinical professor of law and director of UCI Law’s Domestic Violence Clinic; and Dr. Julianne Toohey, professor of obstetrics and gynecology.

The Community Launch of the ICFV is scheduled to follow the 3rd Annual Orange County Women’s Health Policy Summit at the Delhi Center, focusing on policy recommendations related to domestic violence, breast cancer, cervical cancer and teen reproductive health disparities in Orange County.

Professor Stoever, who recently wrote an op-ed for CNN about the devastating prevalence of family violence in the U.S., will introduce the new center, followed by a slate of professors who will present research projects, legal and medical clinical work, and current community partnerships:
  • Dr. Sandra Murray, Pediatrics
  • Prof. Jodi Quas, Psychology, Social Behavior, and Nursing Science
  • Prof. Ray Novaco, Psychology & Social Behavior
  • Prof. Jane Stoever, Law
  • Dr. Lisa Gibbs, Gerontology
  • Prof. Frithjof Kruggel, Biomedical Engineering
  • Vivian Clecak, Executive Director, Human Options
Following the presentations, Dr. Julianne Toohey will lead a guided discussion on research needs and potential partnerships in the community. The event will conclude with a reception.
