Londen Powers

Environmental Law Scholar – Class of 2023

Prior to attending UCI Law, Londen Powers graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in Political Science and Environmental Studies. Her undergraduate senior thesis evaluated Vegan Agriculture as a potential method to both reduce agriculture’s impact on climate change (especially through greenhouse gas emissions) and increase global food security.

Londen chose to attend UCI Law because of its renowned practical-based learning. Since starting at UCI Law, Londen has had the opportunity to explore her interest in environmental law through classes, pro bono work, and extracurricular activities.

As a first-year law student, Londen took International Legal Analysis with Professor Joseph F. C. DiMento, which touched on International Environmental Law. In this class, Londen wrote a research paper on whether Ecocide should be considered an international crime.

During her first year, Londen also had the opportunity to complete pro bono work for the American Constitution Society’s Federal Register Watchdog Project. Through this project, Londen monitored the environmental section of the Federal Register. Her responsibilities included noting the new rules, proposed rules, notices, and comments that were posted in the environment section of the Federal Register and creating a report of the most important posts of the week. These reports were then distributed to individuals who then could comment on any of the Environmental Laws and join the legislative process.

As a second-year law student, Londen chose to enroll in Environmental Law with Professor Alejandro Camacho, for whom she will also work as a research assistant. Londen also currently serves as the Vice Chair for the Environmental Law Society and hopes to provide exciting and informative events on environmental law.

Londen looks forward to continuing her educational journey in environmental law during Spring 2022, when she will have the opportunity to join UCI Law’s Environmental Law Clinic with Professor Michael Robinson-Dorn.
