Announcements
  • CDO Calendar: The CDO now has its own calendar! To view the calendar, enter the password-protected section of the CDO website and click on the "CALENDAR" heading at the top right. To find CDO events and important dates relevant to your class year, use the arrow button located to the right of the "Agenda" tab to select the 1L, 2L, or 3L calendar.


  • Summer and Post-Graduate Placements List: The placements list, including all practice settings in which UCI Law students have spent their summers, is posted on the CDO website. The list also includes the names of students who worked for each employer and are willing to talk about their experience.
CDO Workshops
  • Succeeding During Your Summer at a Law Firm: April 5 (Tuesday), 12:00pm - 1:00pm, MPAA 408. This panel discussion will cover the skills and strategies necessary to succeed as a summer associate at a law firm. The panelists will be 3Ls who worked as summer associates at law firms last summer. The program will include a discussion of important topics such as navigating a firm hierarchy and culture, how to manage work assignments, how to succeed at firm social events, and information about work productivity and the billable hour. Time will be reserved for questions. Please RSVP on Symplicity.


  • 2016 Fall Early Interview Week and Fall Interview Program Strategy Session: April 8 (Friday), 12:00pm - 1:00pm, EDU 1111. The CDO strongly encourages all second-year students to attend this session to learn about Early Interview Week (EIW) and the Fall Interview Program (FIP). In addition to providing essential information concerning On-Campus Interview logistics and timelines, we will discuss preparation for screening and callback interviews and strategies to prepare for the process. The significant majority of EIW employers are large law firms that seek to hire students as summer associates during their 2L summer, with the potential for permanent offers to be extended for post­-graduate employment. The significant majority of FIP employers are government agencies and public interest organizations that seek to hire students for their 2L summer where they will cultivate substantive expertise and relationships that may prove beneficial for securing post-graduate employment.   • Loyola Chicago PLIP Brown Bag Roundtable: April 11 (Monday), 12:00pm - 1:00pm, MPAA 408. The Loyola Chicago Patent Law Interview Program will be held on August 4 - 5, 2016, in Chicago, Illinois. Students planning to attend the Program are invited to this roundtable discussion with 2Ls who attended the Loyola Chicago PLIP last year. Topics that will be covered include researching law firms and prospective employers, bidding strategy, the relationship between Loyola Chicago PLIP and EIW, and interviewing and callback experiences of the panelists in Chicago last year. Those planning to participate in Loyola Chicago PLIP are strongly encouraged to attend. Please RSVP on Symplicity.

  • United States Air Force Tabling: April 6 (Wednesday), 12:00pm - 1:00pm, Law School Courtyard. Interested in learning more about the Air Force JAG? The U.S. Air Force will table in the Courtyard to explain the Judge Advocate General Program and answer questions.


  • Washington State Attorney General's Office Tabling: April 6 (Wednesday), 12:00pm - 1:00pm, Law School Courtyard. The Washington State Attorney General invites students to stop by its table to learn about the office's various law clerk and attorney recruitment programs.


  • Writing Your Federal Resume: April 6 (Wednesday), 2:00pm PST, Virtual Presentation. The presentation will explain each section of the Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA) to assist applicants in selecting the right job and will describe a three-part process to write a federal resume. Attendees will be shown how to review a JOA to determine job qualifications and how to tailor their resumes accordingly. The presentation will also provide a brief overview of the resume builder on USAJOBS. If you are interested in applying for a federal government position (with any agency), register for this presentation, which is limited to the first 1000 attendees.


  • Rutan & Tucker Meet and Greet: April 7 (Thursday), 5:30pm - 8:00pm, Bosscat Kitchen & Libations in Newport Beach. First-year law students who would like to know more about the firm are invited to this event.   • Post-graduate Fellowships 2.0: April 11 (Monday), 12:00pm, Webinar. Southern California Pro Bono Managers announces Post-graduate Fellowships 2.0, a free 1-hour training for law students who plan to apply for post-graduate fellowships during their 3L year. The presentation will offer tips and strategies on how to locate a fellowship that matches the student's interests, develop a fellowship project, identify a host organization, and complete a successful application. The training will be facilitated by OneJustice in a webinar format that allows students to access the training live on their laptops from remote locations.   • Sheppard Mullin Diversity Rock Your Interviews Reception: April 14 (Thursday), 4:30pm - 6:30pm, Orange County Office. Sheppard Mullin invites first-year law students to join a roundtable discussion with the firm's diverse attorneys and to a mixer/reception with all attorneys. Partners and Associates from the Sheppard Mullin offices will facilitate the discussion. Attire is business casual. RSVP to Patty McGraw. For more information, see the event flyer.


  • 2nd Annual Kading Briggs LLP Program and Reception: April 14 (Thursday), 5:30pm - 7:30pm, Daily Grill in Irvine. Kading Briggs will host a program and reception for 1Ls and 2Ls who will be working in law firms this summer. All the attorneys at this firm worked for large law firms prior to joining Kading Briggs and received offers as summer associates from firms including O'Melveny & Myers LLP, Paul Hastings LLP, and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.   • Public Law Center Advocates: The Public Law Center's Core Advocates Group is comprised of young attorneys from many of the major law firms in Orange County. It assists the Public Law Center Board of Directors in matters related to, among other things, development and volunteerism. For the first time, the PLC Advocates are searching for a law student representative to work with them for a 1-year term beginning on August 1, 2016. The position will provide an exciting opportunity for the chosen student to meet practicing attorneys in Orange County and contribute to the essential work of the PLC. Unlike other opportunities posted in this section, interested students should apply through Symplicity by Wednesday, April 13 at 12:00pm. For a full job description, search Symplicity ID 6217.


  • Additional Summer Funding for Public Interest Volunteers: Students who have summer 2016 placements at nonprofit organizations or government agencies, serve at least 300 hours, and complete a brief application, can receive $1,222 in education grants from the Americorps JD program. These funds can be applied to tuition or student loans and will not count against PILF stipends. Students who receive more than $4,300 from outside funding will not be eligible for the award. Applications are due Friday, April 15. For more information on the program and how to apply, visit the program website. Americorp JD is supported by Equal Justice Works.


  • 2016 Cook County Bar Association Minority Law Student Job Fair: The Job Fair, featuring law firms, corporations, and government agencies located primarily in the Midwest, will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016, in Chicago, Illinois for law students in the Classes of 2017 and 2018. Student registration is now open and ends on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at 11:59pm CST. Registration is mandatory, as walk-ins will not be permitted. The program is based on a lottery. For more information or to register, visit the Job Fair website and see the event flyer. Inquiries should be sent to the Job Fair Committee.
