Announcements
  • Spring Interview Program: Employers from all sectors are collecting application materials via Symplicity and will be scheduling interviews throughout the spring for both summer and post-graduate positions. The SIP Employer List, including employers' bidding deadlines and class levels invited to apply, is posted on the CDO website. You can view participating employers and place bids on Symplicity.


  • Summer and Post-Graduate Placements List: The placements list, including all practice settings in which UCI Law students have spent their summers, is updated and posted on the CDO website. The list also includes the names of students who worked for each employer and are willing to talk about their experience.

CDO Workshops
  • 5th Annual Small Firm & Corporate Counsel Reception: March 7 (Monday), 6:00pm - 7:30pm, MPAA Executive Commons. The reception will give UCI Law students an opportunity to meet and network with attorneys from small to mid-size firms and in-house counsel offices. Dean Erwin Chemerinsky will welcome attorneys to the reception with opening remarks. Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP on Symplicity. Attire is business professional. An attendee guide will be emailed to registered attendees tomorrow, Friday, March 4. 


  • Finding & Applying for Judicial Clerkships: March 11 (Friday), 12:00pm - 1:00pm, EDU 1131. Dean Erwin Chemerinsky will moderate a panel of alumni who began their legal careers in clerkships. The panel will discuss why clerkships are valuable and how they impact subsequent career options. The CDO will explain timelines and deadlines, the process for completing applications, and how the CDO can assist with clerkship applications. All students with an interest in judicial clerkships should attend. This event is part of the First-Year Friday series but is open to students in all class years who are considering clerkships. Please RSVP on Symplicity. Lunch will be provided.


  • Public Service Career Planning Workshop: March 16 (Wednesday), 12:00pm - 1:00pm, LAW 3750. This workshop is geared toward students interested in pursuing public service careers, in particular 2L and 3L students planning next steps. The presentation will include a discussion of public service careers and explore approaches to public service career planning, including fellowships, strategic summer and school-year positions, and pro bono projects.

  • Skadden Fellowship Orientation: March 30 (Wednesday), 12:00pm - 1:00pm, EDU 1111. During the first half of this program Susan Butler Plum, the Founding Director of the Skadden Fellowship Program, will be presenting (via Skype) an inside perspective into the application process for this prestigious post-graduate fellowship program. The remainder of the program will cover how to tell your personal story for Fellowship and other public sector applications with an essay component. In-person attendance at this meeting is essential for all 2L students who plan to submit a post-graduate Skadden Fellowship application during September of their 3L year. Please RSVP on Symplicity.   • Civil Litigation Walk-Through Program: March 5 (Saturday), 8:30am Registration, 9:00am - 4:00pm Program, Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles. Los Angeles Superior Court judges invite students to attend this year's civil litigation walk-through program to learn from master trial lawyers and judges about the civil litigation process in the Los Angeles Superior Court from case filing to trial verdict; gain valuable insight about case management, law and motion, discovery, pretrial, and trial; and witness trial skills demonstrations.   • Haynes & Boone 1L Reception: March 15 (Tuesday), 5:30pm - 7:30pm, Costa Mesa Office. Attire is business casual. RSVP to Allison Solis by Monday, March 7 with “UCI Law 1L Reception RSVP” in the email subject line. Attach a copy of your resume and unofficial law school transcript to the email.   • The Southwestern Journal of International Law Symposium: March 18 (Friday), 8:00am - 6:15pm, Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. Southwestern Law School and the Southwestern Journal of International Law are hosting a symposium on The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, 1966-2016: International Context, a study of some of the court’s key international contributions on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the present design of California’s federal courts. Speakers include 16 sitting and retired federal district court and court of appeals judges, prominent historians and law professors, and a number of attorneys.   • Breaking Into Sports Career Fair & Workshop: March 19 (Saturday), 9:00am - 4:00pm, Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ. The Arizona Coyotes are hosting this workshop prior to their game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. This exclusive pre-game event will allow you to participate in one-on-one workshops with proven industry executives. It will also provide the opportunity to network for potential positions with over 12 professional sport organizations within the NHL, MLB, NBA, NFL, and NCAA. For the schedule and more information, see the event flyer.

  • OCBA Spring Member Mixer: March 22 (Tuesday), 5:30pm - 7:30pm, TAPS Fish House & Brewery in Irvine.   • OCBA Charitable Fund 32nd Annual Judge Kenneth Lae Charity Gold Tournament: March 31 (Thursday), 9:00am - 6:00pm, Pelican Hill Gold Club in Newport Beach. Tee up for charity at this popular event! Proceeds benefit the OCBA Charitable Fund, which provides funding and resources to organizations and programs that enhance the system of justice and promote equal justice for all.   • K&L Gates Kickstarter Program: The program is a multi-week, multi-seminar initiative designed to educate 1Ls who self-identify as diverse or who are current or former U.S. service members about the practice of law at a global law firm. The firm’s lawyers prepare you for the transition from student to summer associate to practicing lawyer by providing specialized educational sessions, resources, and mentoring opportunities. The program will be held on four consecutive Tuesday evenings in March and April. All programs will be held at the K&L Gates Irvine office located at 1 Park Plaza, 12th Floor, Irvine 92614. Unlike other opportunities posted in this section, interested students should apply through Symplicity by tomorrow, Friday, March 4 at 12:00pm.   • Animal Law Scholarships: The Animal Legal Defense Fund is now accepting applications for its Advancement of Animal Law Scholarships. Applications are due Friday, April 1. For more information about the scholarships and how to apply, visit their website.

  • AALL Scholarship Awards: The American Association of Law Libraries offers educational scholarships to law school graduates who are interested in attending library school to become law librarians. Many law librarians have both a JD and a Masters in Library and Information Science. The AALL website has information and links to all the scholarship applications, including the Library School Scholarship for those with Law Degrees. Minority applicants may also apply for the George A. Strait Minority Scholarship at the same time, using the same application. For questions about AALL, careers in law librarianship, or scholarship opportunities, email Brendan Starkey, a member of the Scholarship Awards Jury, or Louis Rosen, Chair of the Scholarship Awards Jury.
