  • Change of Status in Symplicity: Every student has been promoted in Symplicity such that you can now view positions available to you as a rising 2L, rising 3L, etc. If you would like to change your status back, please email Brandy Stewart. 
  • UCI Law Alumni Regional Points of Contact: Are you looking for contacts in a specific region? Are you wanting more information on events in the area of your summer job? Visit the new CDO webpage listing alums who have offered to serve as the primary point of contact for a given region. 
  • Bring Your Boss to UCI Law - 8th Annual Supreme Court Term in Review: July 9 (Monday), 10:30am-12:00pm, Barclay Theater. All UCI Law students are encouraged to attend and to extend the invitation to their summer supervisors! This program reviews the Supreme Court's key cases decided in the October 2017 term. Opportunities
  • Just the Beginning - A Pipeline Organization's Share the Wealth Judicial Clerkship Program: Application Deadline, July 21 (Saturday). At this program, six federal judges will be interviewing rising 3Ls to fill 2019-2020 clerkship positions in their chambers. This is a referral program run by judges who feel that it is of the utmost importance to encourage minoritized law students to compete for federal judicial clerkships.   • Public Interest Boot Camp 2018: June 1 (Friday). The Public Interest Boot Camp is a free program designed to prepare law students holding summer internships with public interest law organizations, government agencies, and other legal nonprofits to better serve these clients. All students and public interest advocates are encouraged to view this program to develop new skills for productive and successful client relationships.   • Rock Your Interviews! with Sheppard Mullin: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County. This program is designed to give diverse law students an exclusive look into the interview process. There will be a roundtable discussion followed by hors d'oeuvres and drinks. For locations, dates, and other information, visit here. 
  • 2018 California Employment Lawyers Association Summer Law Clerk Training Seminar: June 7 (Thursday), 4:00pm-7:00pm, Los Angeles. This seminar is for all law students. Topics include employment law fundamentals such as client intake, drafting complaints, discovery requests, and effective motions, and more. The seminar is free with a donation suggested and includes dinner. CELA is a group of attorneys who are passionate about employment law and enjoy mentoring law students and new attorneys.   • LA Law Library Brown Bag Lunch Series - Writing Effectively for Judicial Eyes: June 13 (Wednesday), 12:15pm-1:15pm, Los Angeles. Offering practical guidance for creating polished points and authorities, memoranda, demand letters and other legal documents, this training will provide tips and information designed to present law students and new attorneys with best practices for effective advocacy writing and avoidance of common mistakes in legal writing.   • If/When/How Summer Legal Intern Trainings in Repro Justice: June 14 (Thursday) in New York and Oakland and June 22 (Friday) in Washington, DC. Join other like-minded law students for one of these free half-day trainings and learn about cutting edge issues in reproductive health, rights, and justice and LGBTQ liberation from leading advocates.   • LA Law Library Brown Bag Lunch Series - Post-Graduate Fellowship Opportunities: June 20 (Wednesday), 12:15pm-1:15pm, Los Angeles. This panel discussion will provide information regarding a variety of post-graduate fellowship opportunities, including the Equal Justice Works and Skadden Fellowships. Topics covered will include how to find a sponsor organization, how to ensure quality recommendations, how to develop a project proposal, how to shop it to sponsor agencies and more.   • 14th Annual Bay Area Diversity Career Fair: July 27 (Friday) to July 28 (Saturday), San Francisco. The Bay Area Diversity Career Fair attracts hiring representatives from the most prominent law firms, government legal departments, and nonprofit organizations.   • The Western Region of the National Black Law Students Association Los Angeles Annual Job Fair: August 4 (Saturday), 7:30am-5:00pm, UCLA School of Law. Registration opens Friday, June 1, deadline Saturday, June 30. For more information and to register, visit here.  
  • ACLU Southern California Summer Brown Bag Schedule: June 8 through July 20 (Fridays), 12:00pm-1:00pm, Los Angeles. These brown bag trainings are meant for summer law clerks and are focused on an array of topics like Federal Immigration Law and Litigating International Human Rights in U.S. Courts. Washington, DC Summer Opportunities

  • Summer Pro Bono & Public Interest Forum: June 13 (Wednesday), 12:00pm-2:30pm, Washington, DC. The Summer Forum brings together law students and lawyers from all sectors to highlight how pro bono and public-interest lawyers represent those who are poor and marginalized and address pressing societal issues, and how serving the community can be part of any type of law practice. This forum, featuring keynote speaker ACLU Legal Director David Cole, will be held at Georgetown Law. For more information, visit here. 
  • Fellowships 101 - An Introduction to Postgraduate Public Interest Fellowships: June 19 (Tuesday), 6:30pm-8:30pm, Washington, DC. This program introduces law students to post-graduate public interest fellowships with a casual reception to interact with current and past fellows.   • U.S. Department of Justice Career Information Fair: July 19 (Thursday), 3:00pm-4:30pm, Washington, DC. DC area legal interns are invited to meet DOJ attorneys and recruitment professionals to learn more about DOJ employment and volunteer opportunities. RSVP window opens Monday, June 25 and closes Friday, June 29. RSVP with email subject line "DOJ Career Fair RSVP" - in the email state your name, law school, email address, and internship location.
Law Firm Receptions

For students interested in working at a large or mid-size law firm, attending law firm receptions may be an important aspect of your job search strategy.  There are several benefits to attending receptions: (a) gain a sense of the firm and learn more about its office, attorneys, and culture; (b) make a positive connection with an attorney that you could later reference in a cover letter or interview (c) some firms may be more inclined to interview students who attended a reception (or it may make no difference at all); and (d) on occasion, firm receptions lead to pre-EIW interviews and subsequent pre-EIW offers.  That having been said, academic performance is often the most important criterion for EIW employers, so it is critical that you balance your attendance at receptions with your academic commitments.  If you have any questions about attending receptions, contact your primary career counselor.
