  • 1L Mentor Reception: October 2 (Monday), 6:00pm-8:00pm, Continuing Education Building. All 1Ls should  attend this evening reception to meet their assigned attorney mentors!  Each first-year student will be matched with an attorney mentor prior to the reception (check your email this week for an introduction to your personal mentor). The reception provides an opportunity to meet and connect in-person. Dress is business casual, hors d’oeuvres and light refreshments will be provided.  
  • Fall Interview Program: Government, Public Interest, and Private Practice employers are ready to receive application materials on Symplicity. Employers will schedule interviews with qualified candidates at UCI Law, by phone/skype, or at employer offices throughout the fall. You can access the session through the OCI module on the left side of your screen, and then select the "UCI Law 2017 Fall Interview Program" from the Session dropdown menu.   • Public Service Career Planning: October 4 (Wednesday), 12:00pm-1:00pm, MPAA 408. This workshop is designed for 2L and 3L students interested in pursuing public service careers. The presentation will explore approaches to public service career planning, including tips on how to position yourself for a public service career while in law school, hiring programs and fellowships, and creating your personal calendar.   • 2017 UCI Law-Council of Korean Americans Mentorship Conference: September 30 (Saturday), 8:30am-5:00pm, Continuing Education Building. The purpose of this conference is to inspire, inform, and network with Korean American leaders across sectors and industries. The conference will feature panel discussions (law, medicine, science/engineering, entertainment, government/nonprofit/public interest and business/entrepreneurship), seminars, and speakers, and is open to the public.   • Constitutional Rights Foundation Annual Benefit - Law Student Volunteers Needed: October 26 (Thursday), 6:00pm, Costa Mesa. The Constitutional Rights Foundation, Orange County (“CFC-OC”) is a local non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting civic literacy, youth leadership, and career awareness among Orange County teens. The CFC-OC is holding an Annual Benefit at the Center Club in Costa Mesa with food, beverages and a silent auction.The CFC-OC seeks 4-5 law student volunteers to help set-up or assist at the registration table between 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (Students do NOT need to commit to the entire time slot). Volunteers will be provided free tickets to attend the Annual Benefit. The event is a terrific opportunity to meet judges and attorneys from the Orange County legal community. Interested students should contact Caleb Sullivan no later than 12:00pm on Monday, October 2.
  • Orange County Bar Association-United States Supreme Court Preview: October 4 (Wednesday), 6:30pm, Newport Beach. This event will feature Dean and Distinguished Professor Erwin Chemerinsky. It is a preview of the most important cases for the U.S. Supreme Court's upcoming October 2017 term. The OCBA will be providing a $35 discount for UCI Law students, lowering the rate to $50.   • Legal and Ethical Dilemmas Surrounding Reproductive Technologies: October 13 (Friday), 11:45am-1:30pm, Irvine. Reproductive technologies raise novel legal and ethical issues regarding property rights, surrogacy and egg donation, and family law disputes. Judith Daar, author of The New Eugenics: Selective Breeding in an Era of Reproductive Technologies (Yale University Press 2017), will provide an overview of the legal, medical, and ethical dilemmas surrounding access to infertility care in the United States. The ethics of assisted reproductive technologies will also be considered. The presentation will include a catered lunch. Deadline to register is Tuesday, October 10.
  • Peggy Browning Fund Workers' Rights Conference: October 13-14 (Friday-Saturday), Maryland. With multiple interactive workshops, panel discussions and a keynote address, this conference will give each participant insight into becoming an advocate for workers and their families.   • Orange County - At the Vanguard of the Civil Rights Movement: October 14 (Saturday), 9:00am-11:30am, Chapman Law School. The panel presentation will be moderated by the Honorable Andrew J. Guilford and include other judges as presenters. This informative event is an opportunity to network and is free for law students.  Register here
  • 2017 Los Angeles K-Move Job Fair: October 17 (Tuesday), 1:00pm-6:00pm, Los Angeles. This job fair, sponsored by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, will feature over 35 companies focused in accounting, law, construction, and fashion. To RSVP, send your resume here by Saturday, September 30 for an opportunity to have a pre-arranged interview with companies. 
  • 40th Annual ABA Forum on Franchising: October 18-21 (Wednesday-Saturday), Palm Desert. This forum will offer twenty-four workshops focusing on various aspects of franchise law and many other events. It is a great opportunity to learn about franchising and network with the top practitioners in the field. Registration will be waived by the ABA for law students who wish to attend.   • Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite: October 19-22 (Thursday-Sunday), Yosemite. This conference is recognized as the largest and most prestigious gathering in California of leaders in environmental, land use, and natural resources law. For more information, visit here
  • Prosecutors to Change the World - Fall Event Series: November 1 (Wednesday), 6:30pm-8:00pm, Loyola Law School. Prosecutors can and should be vehicles for social change. The Public Rights Project aims to spark an important conversation with this 4-part series. More information will be provided as the event approaches.
